/ May 5, 2011A guy from Mexico City asked me yesterday why Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and I was stumped — why do we celebrate some obscure Mexican holiday that is not even Mexico's independence day (I think I thought it was their independence day…) so I did what I often do when I am stumped: I looked on wikipedia and it told me that we celebrate today like we celebrate st. patrick's day, chinese new year, and halloween. I did not realize we have a habit of celebrating other people's holidays, but it makes more sense of cinco de mayo. Not that I need much of an excuse to drink margaritas and eat tacos and burritos… HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!!!!

/ May 6, 2011Yeah, I was going to with Mexican St. Patrick's Daywhich is how I think of Cinco de Mayo. Except, youswap your Guinness for a Dos Equis or Tecate.It's a drinking holiday. But I heard yesterday thatit celebrates Mexico's defeat of the French in someobscure war. I don't know if that deserves a holidaythough because who can't beat the French in a war?
