I had my Friday summer hours today. I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend a free Friday afternoon than by walking over to check out the first day of the T-Mobile All-Star FanFest at the Duke Energy Convention Center…

FanFest was hailed as the largest interactive baseball event in the world. For five days, baseball fans had the opportunity to meet MLB Legends, test their skills in the All-Star batting cages and with training drills, view hometown memorabilia and artifacts from Reds’ history, along with a collection of official awards and trophies of Major League Baseball including the World Series, Home Run Derby and All-Star Game MVP trophy and have their photo taken with the World’s Largest Baseball…

Walking into FanFest, it was really hard for us not to compare and contrast it to RedsFest. For example, we noticed entering the main hall at RedsFest was much more impressive than entering the main hall at FanFest…


One of the coolest things at FanFest was all the trophies on display…




Artist S. Preston was at FanFest. I’m a big fan…

His minimalist MLB ballpark poster series is awesome…

We saw Johnny Bench…








We saw Jin Day again!




For me, the hands-down coolest part of FanFest was this display of all the ballcaps for the major league teams and all their minor league affiliates…

Pretty neat stuff. It was a great way to kick-off All-Star Week in Cincinnati! 🙂

We drove up to Liberty Township to watch the USWNT take on Japan in the final of the Women’s World Cup with Cleve and Alyssa. Just a few minutes after the final whistle sounded, the Liberty Township fireworks started. We had a pretty spectacular view of the show from Cleve and Alyssa’s backyard…




It was a pretty fitting way to celebrate the USWNT’s third World Cup victory! 🙂

UPDATE: ICYMI… 5-2 USA! Incredible win for the USWNT led by Carli Lloyd’s hat-trick! The fastest ever hat trick scored in the history of the Women’s World Cup! And I could watch her third goal all day long. USA! 🙂

The Reds turned on their brand new right field videoboard for the first time tonight…






And that’s pretty much where the Reds highlights ended for tonight’s game…

Mike Lorenzen gave up a home run on the fourth pitch of the game. Fourth.





Apparently now there’s free wifi throughout GABP…


The Reds ended up getting killed tonight. 12-1. After the game was finally over, we went across the street to watch the Friday Night Fireworks from In Between Tavern’s patio…






The fireworks were pretty outstanding. They always are. Tonight, the Reds were not.
