Taken with Instagram.

Here are a couple of photos I took today with my Instagram.

It was another chilly but very beautiful morning in downtown Cincinnati…

And the view from the sixth floor of Deskey looking north on my way to a meeting…

That’s all. Taken with Instagram. 🙂

Good morning.

It was a really, really chilly morning but it sure was pretty…

🙂

Downtown details.

Here are some random photos from around downtown from throughout the last week.
The week got off to a really chilly start…

When we were walking Oscar one night, a whole bunch of fire trucks showed up for a false alarm at the P&G GO Towers…

Something happened to the lights in the stairwell in our building. Now the it’s eerily dark with a pretty creepy red tint to it…

We watch a lot of shows about ghostly hauntings. The way the stairwell is lit right now, we find ourselves watching for spirits lurking in the shadows out of the corner of our eyes…

We walked by some chilly broomball taking place on Fountain Square…

They’re making a bunch of progress on the new Holiday Inn on Seventh Street…

And of course, we took some walks down to Lytle Park…

The progress on whatever it is they’re doing to Lytle Tunnel underneath Lytle Park…

And just a couple cones hanging out on a Saturday night…

It’s really hard to walk around downtown and not take a bunch of photos. 🙂

Dinner at Morton’s.

We noticed on the Instagram of Morton’s Steakhouse that they were offering a new year’s celebration promotion featuring three courses for just $36 through January 14th. To make matters even better, we’ve been sitting on $150 in Morton’s gift cards that I received as a reward through my PNC Points Visa. Guess who’s eating at Morton’s tonight!

For the starter, we both had the half Caesar Salad…

For the entree, we both got the 6 ounce Filet…

Mmmm… Morton’s steak. Just look at that mouth-watering slab of meaty goodness…

The entree came with a choice of accompaniment. Genifer went with the broccoli florets and I got the horseradish mashed potatoes….

For dessert, we were both going to go with their creme brulee. But as luck would have it, they have already sold out of all 76 creme brulees that were prepared for the day. So Genifer opted to go with the carrot cake…

And I went with the double chocolate mousse…

Needless to say, it was an incredible meal that left us both stuffed. And the best part is, we still have Morton’s gift cards left for next time! 🙂

Snow squall.

It was lightly snowing outside when I got to work this morning…

Genifer texted me to tell me that a sudden squall of heavy snow created whiteout conditions that just caused a 40-vehicle pile-up on I-74 near the Indiana-Ohio state line. And that the squall was just minutes away from enveloping downtown. Sure enough, minutes later, the snow squall started blowing through. I watched it from my window at work, and I captured a few videos of it on my Instagram that I uploaded to my Flickr

It’s crazy how the snow completely blocked out Carew Tower, PNC Tower and Fifth Third Center just a few blocks away…

I also captured a little bit longer video of the squall as well…

And then just as quickly as it started, it was gone. And everything was back to normal.

I couldn’t imagine trying to drive in something like that. 😦

Winter wonderland.

The temperatures dropped overnight. And we got our first real snow of the winter. When we woke up this morning, it was raining but that quickly turned to snow. And it was really coming down out there

When Oscar and I went on our morning walk, downtown was a winter wonderland…

Brrrr. Baby, it’s cold outside. 🙂

Mita’s.

After a burger at Americano, we stopped down the block at Mita’s for a nightcap. Mita’s is the next restaurant from Chef Jose Salazar, and is named after his Colombian grandmother, his “Mita.”

The atmosphere combines modern, clean architecture with expansive 25-foot windows, bright and colorful Moorish tiles, reclaimed wood floors and warm inviting fabrics…

Genifer’s deliciously spicy El Luchador

I had a Caipirinha. Just like we had in Old San Juan

The interior of Mita’s is gorgeous. It’s one of those places that when you’re in, you don’t feel like you’re in Cincinnati anymore. It’s a beautiful space…

We’ll have to come back to Mita’s for lunch or dinner very soon. 🙂

Well… maybe lunch. The dinner menu looks stupid expensive. :/

Downtown details.

Here’s a collection of photos I took around downtown today…

Metrobot outside of the Contemporary Arts Center…

New warning signs for the high voltage Cincinnati Streetcar lines…

There wasn’t anybody ice skating on Fountain Square…

And the space once filled by the holiday tree on the Square was empty as well…

The tower crane is a constant reminder of downtown’s continual evolution…

Deskey was ready for tomorrow’s big Bengals playoff game against the Steelers…

Gothic versus modern architecture…

Holiday lights outside of Western & Southern…

And the holiday lights down at Lytle Park…

What Friday would be complete without a burger from Americano?

It was another great day in downtown Cincinnati. 🙂

Weston Art Gallery.

This afternoon I stopped by Weston Art Gallery to take a look at their latest installation, GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE Curated by Todd Pavlisko

According to the exhibition guide, “Inspired by the punk band Black Flag’s influential 1981 song of the same name, artist, independent curator and Cincinnati native Todd Pavlisko will present two multifacted presentations that examine the varied experience of amassing objects and the practice of collecting. In the Weston’s street-level space, Pavlisko will taken a unique approach to this idea by selecting artists who accumulate and amass objects to form sculptural installations.”

“In the lower galleries, GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE will segue into selections from several renowned yet private Cincinnati collectors. The region has a wealth of contemporary art collectors unintimidated by work that is socially conscious and often difficult in content. This rare and unique installation will unveil works never publicly shown in the area and shed light on how some individuals in our community collect and live with art.”

Another really interesting show. And definitely worth checking out if you’re downtown.

Downtown details.

Back to the grind. The tower crane was back to doing tower crane things…

Donald Deskey was all bundled up because it’s cold outside, and the heat wasn’t working on the first floor this morning. And that means, it’s cold inside too.

The view from my office window…

Here’s this remnant doo-hickey in our building’s lobby that we pass every day…

And last night must have been the final night of the green tiara atop the Great American Tower for this holiday season…

Because on our Oscar walk this evening, the tiara was glowing white again.
Booooring. 🙂
