Northside Saturday.

Early this afternoon, we walked down to Blue Jay for lunch…

We both had grilled cheeses and fries. My grilled cheeses had so much turkey on it…

After lunch, we walked over to Urban Artifact

UA was hosting the Holiday Ohio Explored Ohio Maker Mart. We didn’t know there were going to be food trucks at Urban Artifact this afternoon. I don’t know that we would have skipped Blue Jay though. Those grilled cheeses really hit the spot…

There was even more stuff downstairs in UA’s taproom…

It was really fun to wander around and look at all the crafts. If you were looking for a new hand-knit winter hat, this was the place for you. Genifer got two new winter hats. And I got a really shiny ring with beautiful inlays. After the Maker Mart, we walked down to Second Place for a drink. They replaced all their beer tap handles with the tops of trophies. I wonder how long they’ve been like that and I never noticed…

It was another really fun Saturday in Northside. We love our neighborhood. 😀🛍️❤️

Chocolate mint stout and empanadas.

After work this evening, I hopped the Cincinnati Metro 11 bus…

I rode the eleven up to East Walnut Hills…

I met her just around the corner from her work at Woodburn Brewery. Because we saw that Woodburn had their Chocolate Mint Imperial Stout back on tap. It’s the beer that tastes just like a Girl Scouts Thin Mint cookie…

There were also empanadas from Che. I really love empanadas…

We got the trio of empanadas. We tried the beef, Cuban and pepperoni empanadas…

All of them were very good but the traditional beef empanada is always my favorite.

I was a fun Friday evening with great empanadas and a pretty outstanding beer. We’ll have to do this again soon. 😀🍺❤️

Bonsai Project.

This evening Higher Gravity hosted an event that featured beers from both Shorts Brewing Company up in Michigan and Cincinnati’s Mad Tree Brewing Company. They each brewed a beer that was intended to be layered one on top of the other to create flavors imitating a gin and tonic…

It really didn’t taste much like a gin and tonic. But when the two beers were layered, they created a very delicious beer. After we finished our layered beer, we had a flight of the two Shorts beers and the two Madtree beers…

There’s always something interesting going on a Higher Gravity. 😀🍻❤️

Our 2018 Higher Gravity Beervent Calendar.

This evening we stopped at Higher Gravity for a beer. We wanted to try Platform Beer Company’s Fostered Bananas Sour Berliner Weisse and Brink Brewing’s Armored Heart Coffee & Vanilla Stout

And we had to pick up our 2018 Higher Gravity Beervent Calendar

It’s like any other Advent calendars used to countdown the days of Advent in eager anticipation of Christmas. Except with this calendar, there’s a different beer behind every door. We can’t wait to see what beers are waiting for us every day as we inch closer to Christmas…

We’re going to post the photos from our HG 2018 Beervent calendar every day until Christmas in this photo album on our Flickr. Cheers! 😀🍺🗓️🎄❤️

The happiest hour in Northside.

After work this evening, we stopped at Second Place on the way home…

Second Place has some amazing burgers. They’re not anything super fancy. They’re just a really good, solid burger And during their happy hour, they’re half-price. A single burger is only $3 and just $5 for a double burger with bacon

We add a basket of fries for $4. And boom, instant dinner. Second Place also had a really incredible Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout from March First on tap. And the drafts were also $1 off. It was a really good happy hour. I think it might just be the best happy hour in Northside. And I could see this becoming a weekly tradition. 😀🍔🍟❤️

My Favorite Year.

This evening our friend Jen was in a production of the classic musical comedy, My Favorite Year at the Aronoff Center presented by Cincinnati Music Theatre. We’ve never known anyone in an on-stage musical production so we had to go check it out. Genifer met me downtown before the performance, we got to check out the Cincy Holiday Pop-Shop and then we stopped for a drink before the performance at one of our favorite spots from when we still used to live downtown, Horse&Barrel

It’s one of Genifer’s favorite spots because she loves their Cold One & Old One…

It’s a draft beer and a little bourbon for just $5…

I don’t know why that photo is so fuzzy. I guess I should have cleaned my lens better. After our Cold One & Old One, we walked across the street to the Aronoff Center’s Jarson Kaplan Theater…

There’s our friend Jen…

We had really nice seats in one of the boxes overlooking the stage…

We sat in almost the same seats when we saw the Mersey Beatles in the same theater…

I snuck a couple of photos with my Polaroid CUBE+…

It was a good performance and our friend Jen was very, very good in her role…

On our way home from the performance, we stopped at Higher Gravity to try their latest special keg, Double Dunk by Prairie Ales, an Imperial Stout made with real Oreos!

It was a very good stout. I could have used about six or so more Oreos. They tasted so good when you dunked them in the stout. It made for a great nightcap to a really fun Friday evening. 😀🎭❤️

Parfaits & calzones as big as your head.

This afternoon we walked over to our favorite brewery, Urban Artifact

Not too long ago at Urban Artifact, we finally got to try Wildfire Pizza Kitchen’s pizza. And their pizzas were outstanding. Today, we wanted to share one of their calzones and some cheese bread for lunch. Their calzones are huuuuge…

They’re so tasty! Ours was stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. And you can’t beat their cheese bread. It’s one of the best things around. To wash down all that deliciousness, Genifer had an Operation Plowshare and I had a Strawberry Parfait

They also had actual strawberry parfaits…

I was going to have one for dessert after we finished our calzone and cheese bread but we missed our window and they had it all cleaned up and put away by the time we finished. Next time, I’ll have to eat my lunch faster so I can have some dessert. What a delicious Saturday afternoon! And when we heading out, we saw this classic beauty…

And now our day is complete. 😀🍕🍓❤️

Thursday evening at Listermann.

After work this evening, we stopped at Listermann Brewing Company’s taproom across the street from Xavier’s campus…

We’ve been to Listermann before. We pre-gamed there before one of the very first FC|C preseason matches against Xavier, and we loved going to their Volksfest. Earlier in the week, we saw on their Instagram that they had a Mexican Chocolate Chickow on tap that sounded very intriguing. And then we saw that they also had a Mexican Chocolate Stout on tap as well called Pastel Con Amigos. But when we got to the taproom, they were both already gone. But there were a lot of other interesting sounding beers on tap…

We decided to start with a flight…

Our first flight…

Father Kyle’s Cinnamon Stout was really good. As was Satisfied? Their Cookie Wizard had glitter in it. You can sort of see it here…

There it is…

And here’s our second flight…

In my opinion, Nutcase is one of Listermann’s best beers. Sooo peanut buttery! Seen and noted that Thursday night is also Wing Night in the taproom…

We didn’t partake but we ordered some other stuff from Renegade Grille

We ordered some deep fried mac ‘n cheese balls, loaded cheese fries and a fried bologna sammich to share…

The fried bologna sammich and loaded fries were out of this world…

It was a fun Thursday evening. We can’t wait to come back for another fried bologna sammich and some more incredible beers. 😀🍺❤️

Mixwell’s.

This evening we stopped into a new bar that just opened on Thursday in Northside called Mixwell’s. Actually, they’ve been open for a while but just recently moved from Hamilton Avenue by Northside Tavern down to the old Barrio space next to the arcade and across the street from Second Place/Littlefield…

Mixwell’s is actually more of a discotheque than just bar. I hope they figure out a way to utilize the incredible back patio space…

It’s kind of crazy to have a dance club in Northside. There aren’t very many dance clubs left in Cincinnati that I can think of off the top of my head.  It’s not really our scene exactly. But I could see us stopping in for a drink every now and then. 😀🕺❤️

Thursday nights.

We usually try to stop somewhere on our way home from work on Thursday evenings for a happy hour drink or a bit to eat since Genifer doesn’t have to work on Fridays. More often than not that place is Higher Gravity. They almost always have something fun happening on Thursday and tonight was no exception. Tonight, they tapped a keg of Banana Coconut Dragons Milk Reserve from New Holland Brewing

It was a pretty incredible beer. So much banana and coconut but not too much. It was just the perfect amount of banana and coconut that paired really well with rich dark chocolate. It was so dang good. Before we headed home, we had a couple of slices of pizza from Chameleon

They have some really great slices. It was another pretty great Thursday night. And we were home and had the dogs walked before the Thursday night football game came on. That’s a good start to the almost weekend. 😀🍺🍕❤️
