Another Northside Saturday.

So recently, I’ve been tinkering with the notion of buying a new camera. Most likely a new point&shoot but maybe a 4/3 mirrorless camera. I’d start looking at cameras and I always stop because the camera on my new Samsung Galaxy Note9 is sooo good. It’s really become my go-to camera. It’s always right there in my pocket. And the quality is probably just as good as one of my dSLRs. So I’ve really hesitated to pull the trigger on a new camera. Then I stumbled across Moment. They are very stylish cases for your mobile device that have different attachable camera lenses. It’s a pretty genius idea.

Recently, I ordered a Moment case for my Note9. I also ordered Moment’s Superfish lens. But for whatever reason, they sent me their 58mm Tele lens instead. After playing with it for a bit. I decided to keep the Tele lens. The lens gives your photos this awesome vignette in the corners. It’s a look I’ve always loved. And then I thought somewhere down the line, try again to get the Superfish.

Genifer gave me one of my birthday presents early today. And it was the Superfish lens!

I grabbed my brand new lens and we headed out a really late lunch at Blue Jay

The super fish lens is super neat. It gives you a 170-degree field of view, and it really expands the capabilities of your mobile camera. I really like it a lot. I also really like this chicken tender sammich I ordered at Blue Jay…

Genifer ordered a grilled cheese with tomatoes…

We love Blue Jay. Their food isn’t anything fancy. It’s just really solid and delicious and ridiculously inexpensive. After we were done with lunch, we walked down to Higher Gravity for a flight…

While we were at HG, we met up with our friends Chris and Tayler…

There’s a brand new brewery that’s been in the works in Northside for a while now called Humble Monkย Brewing Co. It’s just kitty-corner to Urban Artifact. And we heard that they were opening just for this weekend for people to try their first beers while they raise more funds as they can continue the renovations upgrades to their brewery.

So we had to walk over to check it out…

Their beers were pretty good. Nothing too out of the ordinary. They had four beers on tap at the start of the day. But had already run out of one of them. We tried their Saison/Farmhouse Ale and their Imperial Stout. I thought the stout was really good. A little on the boozy side but still pretty good. We hung out for a beer. Their space is pretty great if they could get more beers together. Here are a few photos of industrial Northside when I was playing with my Superfish lens…

And from there, we headed around the corner to The Hamilton

I think The Hamilton has some of the best charcuterie boards around…

I love their charcuterie. After we finished our delicious meats and cheese, we headed for home. We walked the dogs around the block…

And called it a night on another wonderful Saturday in Northside. ๐Ÿ˜€โฌ†๏ธโค๏ธ

The Embassy is open.

When we were in Jamaica, we would see this sand sculpture that said, “The Embassy is open.” We saw it for the first few days we were at the resort…

We were walking around Northside and we walked past this little table set up on the sidewalk. The first thing that popped in my head was The Embassy is open…

You never know what you’ll see walking around Northside.ย ๐Ÿ˜€โค๏ธ

Good evening from Northside.

I really love it when it’s dark outside and the streetlights are on and the light from the streetlights illuminate the leaves on the nearby trees…

I think it’s one of those really beautiful everyday things that not everybody gives the appreciation it deserves.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐ŸŒƒโค๏ธ

The Alleys of Northside.

In between the main streets in Northside are a bunch of little alleys. I’m guessing they are used or were used so people could get to their garages or driveways behind their homes. But they seem to be in quite the state of disrepair. They are wonderful to look down but still kind of creepy enough to not wander too far down…

Someday when I don’t have anything else to do, I would love to ride my bike around Northside and photography all these little alleys and turn it into a book, The Alleys of Northside.ย It would also be really interesting to photograph them in different seasons and different times of the day. That would be interesting… to me. I find all these little alleys fascinating. I bet you there are all sorts of visual treasures down there.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ“ทโค๏ธ

Good evening from Northside.

When we were walking the dogs tonight, all the lights were off in the parking lots at the school up on top of the hill. It gave the end of the street a very creepy feel…

Northside Sunday.

This afternoon, we stopped at Melt for a late Brunch…

Afterwards, we stopped by Urban Artifact

Urban Artifact’s Bewilderfest was Friday and Saturday. We wanted to see what was left on tap from their big celebration. Last year, they had a bunch of crazy beers…

We ordered a flight plus one…

And then we shared The Tumi and Lemon Fennel Salad

Urban Artifact made three barrel-aged variant bombers for their Bewilderfest: Beipiaosurus Boysenberry Sour, Dimetrodon Raspberry Sour and Stegosaurus Montmorency Cherry Sour

We didn’t try them. I bet they were all delicious but they were a little on the pricey side.ย  However, they had stickers of all the different dinosaurs from the labels, and they gave us an entire set of them for free…

And after I took the photo of my new dinosaurs stickers…

It was another fun Sunday in Northside.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿบ๐Ÿฆ–โค๏ธ

Northside Saturday.

This afternoon we walked down to Blue Jay for lunch…

We tried their cheese coneys and chili cheese sammiches and they were awesome!

After lunch, we were headed off to the grand opening of favorite coffee shop, Sidewinder’s brand new coffee roastery…

But first, we stopped in Shake It Records…

Seriously, we need to get a record player…

They had so many good records that I would have bought today if we had a record player. Walking down Hamilton Avenue right next to Hoffner Park, it looks like a new smoothie and juice bar is going in…

We made it all the way down Spring Grove to Sidewinder’s new coffee roastery…

Their new coffee roaster…

There was some serious roasting going on in here…

Original artworks by very talented artist and Sidewinder barista, Amy Poliner…

They’re going to need some more coffee beans…

We had a coffee drink and hung out for a little while and learned about the process of roasting coffee beans. It’s a lot more complicated than I thought it would be…

From there we stopped at Second Place to have a bourbon slushie and kill a little bit of time while we waited for our friend’s backyard birthday party to start…

W estayed at the backyard birthday party until it got too dark to see anymore in the backyard. And then we headed home. It was a really fun day in Northside.ย ๐Ÿ˜€โค๏ธ
