Dixie Terminal.

Every Monday morning at work, we have our weekly status meeting. And every week, a randomly chosen handful of us are given a task to accomplish that week. Sometimes, it’s a group lunch or outing. Sometimes, it’s having to find an item or landmark around downtown. This week a group of us had to walk down to Dixie Terminal at Walnut and Fourth Streets and take a selfie in the long, street-level arcade with its jaw-droppingly gorgeous ornate ceiling…

The Dixie Terminal building was completed in 1921 and served as a streetcar terminal, stock exchange and office building in the Central Business District. The terminal was used for bus service after streetcar service ceased in the 1950s. The Cincinnati Stock Exchange closed its physical trading floor in 1976 after becoming an electronic stock trading exchange but remained in the building until relocating from Cincinnati to Chicago in 1995 and became the National Stock Exchange. Today, the building is home to Great American Insurance among other companies. 🙂

Cyclones hockey game #5.

Tonight, we went to our fifth Cyclones hockey game of the season

LET’S PLAY HOCKEY!

It was FC Cincinnati night at tonight’s Cyclones game. So we were all decked out in some of FC Cincinnati cold weather gear…

At the end of the first period, the Quad City Mallards had a 1-0 lead over the Cyclones…

Goal Cyclones!

At the end of two, it was all tied at one…

3-1 CYCLONES!

And photo made the big board again for the third straight game

And this one belongs to the Cyclones, 3-2

Cyclones are always so much fun, especially when they win! 🙂

A cold & snowy day.

It was a cold and snowy day in Cincinnati. We were supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow. That didn’t quite happen, but we still got a pretty nice dusting of the cold, white stuff…

Walking to catch the bus was pretty chilly…

So was walking from the bus stop downtown to work…

I could have sat in my office and just watched it snow all day long

Brr. 🙂

Constructing Cincinnati.

This photo popped up in my Timehop today from a year ago

It was the start of the new parking garage on Sycamore between Seventh and Eighth Streets. And here’s a picture of what that project looks like today…

The garage has been completed, and is open for business. A large part of the building is covered with siding and over half of the building has the windows installed. That’s a lot of progress in a year. It still has a long way to go but it’s still lot of progress nonetheless.

I wonder how many apartment units this building will house, and what will be the starting price for those apartments. Just out of curiosity, I looked at the this this place’s sister property Seven at Broadway to see where those prices started, a one bedroom at Seven started at $1555-1655. YIKES! I imagine these will be in that same ballpark if not a little higher. Also out of curiosity, I looked to see where the starting prices were in our old building, Sycamore Place and our one-bedroom B unit now starts at $1355. With prices like those, it makes our house look like the deal of the century. And I think it really is. 🙂

Deskey White Elephant potluck.

Today was the annual Deskey holiday luncheon

Delicious stuff! My contribution to the Deskey white elephant gift exchange was this silly cute Starbucks barista bear and a $10 Starbucks gift card…

I ended up with a pet rock shaped like a turtle. :/ How adorable were these cookies…

It was another really fun afternoon at a great company. 🙂

Cyclones hockey game #4.

Tonight, we went to our fourth Cyclones hockey game of the season

At the end of the first, it was 1-0 Cyclones…

2-0 Cyclones!!

Our selfie made the big screen for the second straight game…

And the Cyclones held on to win 3-1!

The Cyclones hockey games are always fun. Especially when they win. 🙂

Cyclones hockey game #3.

Tonight, we went to Cyclones hockey game #3 of the season at US Bank Arena…

The Cyclones scored as soon as we got into US Bank Arena. But for some reason the goal never made it to the scoreboard. It must have been disallowed for some reason…

Come to find out it was FC Cincinnati takeover night at tonight’s Cyclones game. There were a fair amount of FC Cincinnati supporters that descended upon US Bank Arena clad in Orange and Blue complete with drums and songs straight out of The Bailey…

Had we known, we’d have worn some our FC Cincinnati scarves…

That’s an impressive first period of work…

At the start of the second period, the ‘Clones trailed Fort Wayne 1-0…

And at the end of the second, it was still 1-0…

Our Cyclones selfie made the big board for the first time this season…

Twister joined forces with the FC Cincinnati contingent…

Fort Wayne added the empty netter at the end of the third period…

And the game would end 2-0 to Fort Wayne Komets

After the game, the Uber rates were kind of ridiculous for some reason. There’s no way the 1810 people in attendance at tonight’s game couldn’t have a surge like that. So we walked up to Igby’s on Sixth Street, and had a beer while we waited for the surge to return to normal…

We had a delicious Opera Cream Stout from Blank Slate

Before we could even finish our beer, the Uber rates had gone back to normal. Once we were ready, we got our Uber and headed from home. Win or lose, it was yet another great night of Cincinnati Cyclones hockey! 🙂

Seen & noted.

I got my haircut this afternoon, and it was raining in downtown Cincinnati. Thankfully, I could still walk through what little portion was left of the once great Cincinnati Skywalk. Once I got over to Sixth Street, I made it almost all the way over to Queen City Square on Fourth Street. It doesn’t sound like a big deal but the Skywalk saved me having to walk four and a half blocks outside… in the rain. Also on my way to get my haircut, I passed by a bunch of pretty Christmas trees in the lobbies of the various buildings. In the OmniCare building…

And in Queen City Square…

Walking back to work, I noticed that they had hung all the holiday decorations in P&G Gardens

I don’t really miss living downtown. But I do miss walking through P&G Gardens and Lytle Park every day. They were a couple of my little happy places downtown. 🙂

A foggy morning.

It was very foggy this morning in downtown Cincinnati. I love it when the tops of the buildings disappear into the foggy sky. 🙂

Redsfest 2016.

It was Redsfest 2016 Saturday at Duke Energy Convention Center. This is the third straight year we’ve been to Redsfest (2014 and 2015). We always enjoy walking around Redsfest. It’s just a really fun event…

As soon as we walked in, we ran into Reds pitcher Raisel Iglesias…

Did you notice how awesome his shoes were? Both Genifer and I want a pair of those!

And we met the Louisville Bats mascot, Buddy Bat

We saw Reds pitcher Michael Lorenzen…

And we saw Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart in the same place we saw him at last year’s Redsfest

A Lego exhibit is coming to the Louisville Slugger Museum in Kentucky…

We saw Reds favorite Corky Miller…

There was a taco cooking contest going on…

We got these awesome Redsfest draw-string backpacks…

We stopped and listened to The Mistics…

As we were leaving Redsfest, we ran into Reds outfielder Scott Schebler…

It was another great Redsfest. It’s always such a fun event to wander around. 🙂

Afterwards, we stopped at Americano for some guacamole, BBQ chicken wings and onion rings. It was a wonderful end to a great afternoon downtown.
