I’ve been seeing these electric Bird Scooters all over around downtown…

Just one day, they just appeared out of the blue, and in a matter of a couple of days, they were literally everywhere downtown. I didn’t know very much about them at all. And I really didn’t give them much of a second thought. Having just had both hips of my replaced, the last thing I need to be doing is hopping on an electric scooter and zipping around downtown. But after seeing Casey Neistat talk about them on one of his vlogs, I became more curious and downloaded the app to learn more about them.
After you download the app, agree to the terms and conditions and enter billing information, it would appear that you’re good to go. Now from what I understand, you use the app to locate a scooter near you (and looking at the map, they’re everywhere downtown.) Once you find a scooter, you use the app again to unlock the scooter by scanning the barcode on the handlebars. You put the kickstand up, kick-start the scooter three times, then use the throttle button on the handlebar. You ride with both feet on the footboard, use the handbrake to slow down and obey the traffic laws. You end your ride by tapping the END button in the app. Apparently, the scooters cost $1 to unlock with an additional 15¢ a minute until you end your ride and relock your scooter whenever you get to wherever you’re going.
Initially, I’m very skeptical about these scooters. But I was also very skeptical initially about Uber and now we use Uber all the dang time. So someday when I’m feeling particularly brave, I’ll have to take one of these scooters for a ride and check it out.
