Did you bring your umbrella?

Hello from another rainy day in downtown Cincinnati…

I guess it’s just that rainy time of year. I’m glad I remembered my umbrella. 😀🌧️☔️❤️

Transit of Mercury.

While I was working today, I watched the Transit of Mercury across the Sun on Slooh.

Today, people across most of the world had the chance to catch the planet Mercury passing across the sun. This rare event won’t be seen from Earth again until 2032, so we put together this guide on the science behind the sight and how best to observe it yourself.

The smallest planet in the solar system is also the closest to our star, and occasionally it crosses in front of the sun’s bright disk from our perspective here on Earth. The last time this happened was in 2016, but after this upcoming transit, we’ll have to wait another 13 years to see the next one

The Transit of Mercury will occur only 14 times during the 21st century. As seen from Earth, only transits of Mercury and Venus are possible, because these are the only planets that lie between Earth and the sun. Transits of Venus occur in pairs separated by about eight years, with more than a century separating each pair.

Mercury began its journey across the sun at 7:35 am, and the entire transit took roughly 5 and a half hours, ending at 1:04 pm, according to NASA.

The planet currently looks like a tiny, traveling blemish on the sun’s face as it passes in front of the sun.

It was a really interesting program to listen to while I was working. 😀🌞❤️

Lunch in West Chester.

This afternoon we drove out to West Chester to see Genifer’s mom’s new house. It’s super nice and really big with a big yard and all very West Chester. I didn’t take any photos because I’m really super weird about taking photos of other people’s stuff and posting it online. It’s not my thing. I just don’t do it. After we hung out at Geri’s new house for a bit, got the grand tour and the lay of the land, we all went to Dingle House in West Chester for lunch where I had this monster of a bacon burger…

The last time I talked to my parents, they were telling me about their post-Halloween All Stouts Day adventures at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo. And specifically, they were telling me about Bell’s Arabicadabra Coffee Milk Stout. And look what I found at Dingle House…

Unfortunately, it wasn’t actually on tap. Even though we were told a couple of times that the draught beer was completely current and just updated that morning. And that’s a bummer. But we’ll be out there to visit a lot of more. So we’ll keep checking back.

Personally, I think the vast suburbia that is West Chester gets a bad wrap. On our way to Geri’s house, we passed a bunch of places I wouldn’t mind checking out in the future trips out to the ‘burbs. And I could see the draw of living there. Big home, big yard, white picket fence, two-car garage and all that. It’s not for everyone. We like our more urban, walkable little neighborhood. But different strokes for different folks. And I look forward to our trips out West Chester to visit. 😀🏡🍔🍺❤️
