Sidewinder Coffee Northside.

We stopped at Sidewinder Coffee in Northside on our way to work this morning…

Genifer got a Mexican Latte, and I got a Caramel Mocha Turtle…

Such great stuff, and we love that it’s just down the street from our house. 🙂

Lazy Sundays.

What is they say about the best laid plans? We planned to go over and check out Cincy Summer Streets on Hamilton Avenue in Northside. But we were lazy and slept in and then puttered and cleaned up a bit after last night’s little party. We ended up missing all of the Cincy Summer Streets festivities. And we were fine with that because it was stupid hot outside this afternoon. We were also planning to going over to checkout the last day of Bewilderfest at Urban Artifact

But we decided to wait to go until after we streamed the FC Cincinnati match against New York Red Bulls 2 live on YouTube. And that was a mistake. FC|C ended up losing 2-0. Both goals came on ridiculously absurd penalty calls, the first of which resulted in FC|C’s keeper being sent off in the 10th minute. It was farcical. Right then, we should have turned it off and gone and done something else. But we didn’t. We’re good fans. We suffered through that match. All the way until the final whistle. And as soon it was over, we started to get ready to head over to Bewilderfest. Then we heard a surprising loud thunder clap, looked outside to see this…

The sky looked like something out of Ghostbusters. And then it started pouring. The skies cleared a bit but it pretty much rained for the rest of the evening…

So we ended up being lazy and not really doing much all day. And I can’t say that I’m upset about that at all. 🙂

It was kinda foggy when we were out walking Oscar this evening in Northside. All of the lights up the hill at the end of our street had a bit of a glowing halo around them. It was pretty neat. Taken with Instagram. 🙂

I want to ride my bicycle.

I’ve been wanting a new bike for a while. I love my Trek 1.2 road bike and all. But with all those gears and everything, it’s meant for going fast on paved paths. I’ve been wanting just a single speed bike to just ride around on, especially since we’ve moved into our house. I’ve really been wanting to cruise around Northside, and get to explore our new neighborhood more. I couldn’t think of a better way to do that than from atop a bike. I’ve been looking at a lot, A LOT of bikes. I just wanted something stylish and reliable that wasn’t going to break the bank. I finally decided to order a Harper SS by Critical Cycles. I went with the Harper because it looked really stylish for the price point, and it has dual brakes, front and back. And unlike my Trek, it has riser handlebars that encourage a relaxed, upright riding position. When I got home from work today, it was waiting for me on our front porch…

I managed to get it out of the box…

That was the most difficult part of the assembly…

And about fifteen or so minutes later, I had a brand new bike…

I love the combination of the light blue frame with the white accents and the brown saddle and grips. I took it for a spin around the block, and it rides like a dream. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. It compliments Genifer’s Breezer really nicely without being too matchy-matchy…

I can’t wait to get them out on the road in Northside this weekend. I know we’ll definitely be riding them over check out to Bewilderfest at Urban Artifact Sunday evening. Hopefully, we be able to ride to check out Cincy Summer Streets in Northside as well. Or maybe a brunch. All I know is I’m really excited for us to go ride bikes around our new neighborhood. 🙂

We saw John Travolta.

John Travolta is in Cincinnati shooting a new movie about John Gotti. When we were waiting for the bus to go to the FC Cincinnati match, we noticed that Hamilton Avenue was closed south of Pullan in Northside…

We realized it was a movie set. So we stood and watched while we waited for the bus. And I got a couple of the blurriest photos of John Travolta from distance…

He got of a car, walked up to the house, up the steps, inside the house, emerged seconds later carrying a bag and got back in the car. They did the scene twice. And then John Travolta hopped into a waiting white Jaguar, and was whisked away. Not something you see everyday. Genifer said she heard that there have been sixteen movies filmed in and around Cincinnati so far this year. And that’s pretty cool. 🙂

Urban Artifact.

After dropping off Oscar at Genifer’s mom’s house, we stopped at Urban Artifact on the way home to get a couple of growlers to take with us to Michigan…

We got a taster to decide which flavors to get in our growlers…

There was an pretty awesome Elvis impersonator…

Did you know there’s live music every night of the week at Urban Artifact?

We got a growler of Keypunch key lime gose, The Gadget raspberry & blackberry sour ale and a howler of Keypunch infused with jalapeño and lime…

We love Urban Artifact. It’s our favorite Cincinnati brewery. And it’s just right around the corner from us. 🙂

Northside nubs.

Just some random photos from around Northside…

Lazy Sundays.

Lazy Sundays around the house are the best. We watched a bunch of Olympics. Grilled up a bunch of good stuff. And later in the evening mowed the front and back lawn.

Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition.

After wandering through the Northside Summer Market and grabbing a bite to eat at The Littlefield, we decided to check out Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition. Arcade Legacy has been Cincinnati’s premier classic gaming destination since 2009. At their all ages location in the Cincinnati Mall, you can find 70+ arcade games and pinball machines, 20 classic and current gaming consoles, giant projection screens for the newest titles and Rock Band all for just one low admission price. At Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition in Northside, they offer a great selection of beers, cocktails and hot dog creations along with the nearly 50 arcade games and pinball machines, a classic console lounge, current console bar and an outdoor patio space. All games are free to play with the purchase of drinks or food except pinball which is 50¢ a game. It sounded a lot like 16-Bit down in OtR. And 16-Bit was fun the few times we went. But it was just such a looooong walk away from us. Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition is just a hop, skip and a jump from our house near the end of Hamilton Avenue on Spring Grove…

They don’t have many taps but still had some great options with Sweet Baby Jesus and Urban Artifact’s Keypunch…

We had perfect timing. Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition had just opened for the evening and we almost had the entire place to ourselves…

We got to play every arcade game in the place. There were a bunch of good ones. Genifer also schooled me at some Super Mario Bros on SNES…

We never had Nintendo growing up. We had Atari and Sega. The whole place was such a throwback to childhood. And so much fun! We’ll definitely be back to Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition again and again. I want to try some of those gourmet dogs as well! 🙂

Northside Summer Market.

Today was the Northside Summer Market…

For over 15 years, the neighborhood of Northside has been hosting an annual, community-wide yard sale in conjunction with Corridor127 — better known as The World’s Longest Yard Sale. The event transforms our neighborhood into a shoppers paradise and gives both residents and visitors a chance to weave in & out of Northside in search of some the city’s most eclectic finds

We wandered up and down a few streets in Northside before calling it a day on the yard sale. It was really warm out and we got a late start on getting out to rummage…

We walked by The Kitchen Factory, which already smelled like delicious pizza…

And we walked by the future home of Apple Street Market

Hoffner Street was closed off for the Northside Summer Market…

The really cool Northside t-shirts I saw at the Cincinnati T-Shirt Expo on Fountain Square were there…

Some day I’ll break down and buy one. She had really beautiful, gorgeous paintings…

And there was a beer garden at Northside About Space

Afterwards, we had some outstanding cilantro & lime chicken wings with Thai coconut milk broth and warm 16 Brix bread at The Littlefield

It was great to wander around and start to explore our new neighborhood a little bit. 🙂
