Odds & ends.

The pretty flowers on our tree in our front yard were covered in dew this morning…

And there were some more really beautiful clouds above Northside this evening…

USOC17: THE CUP RUN WILL CONTINUE!

FC CINCINNATI’S EPIC US OPEN CUP RUN WILL CONTINUE! 🏆

FC Cincinnati defeated Miami FC of the NASL 1-0 on the road in Miami with a goal by Djiby, his fourth of this incredibly magical US Open Cup run. And with that, FC|C has made it to the semi-finals of the 2017 US Open Cup!

Per Orange & Blue Press, Djiby is the first player in the Modern Era to score four game-winning goals in the same US Open Cup tournament. At the end of the pitch, FC|C’s star goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt hasn’t allowed a goal in 469 minutes of US Open Cup play. Starting from the 11th minute of the 2016 USOC loss to Tampa Bay, Hildebrandt has not conceded a single goal, leaving him just 4 minutes shy of the modern-day record, held by Jon Conway. Conway had a 473 consecutive minutes streak for San Jose between 2000 and 2001. And if you string Mitch’s streak together with Dallas Jaye’s 120 minutes of clean-sheet play versus AFC Cleveland in the second round, FC Cincy hasn’t allowed a goal in a staggering 589 minutes of US Open Cup play, also a Modern Era record. Zero goals conceded in 589 minutes of play. WOW!

There are now just four teams left in the 2017 US Open Cup: San Jose Earthquakes, Sporting Kansas City, New York Red Bulls and our FC Cincinnati…

In the 2017 USOC semi-final, FC|C will face New York Red Bulls. AT NIPPERT STADIUM.

FC|C will host the Red Bulls after wins against AFC Cleveland, Louisville City FC, Columbus Crew, Chicago Fire and now Miami FC. With their win over Miami, FC Cincinnati became the first non-MLS side to reach the US Open Cup semi-finals since Richmond Kickers in 2011. And while a USL team has not made the USOC semi-finals since 2011, a USL squad has not hosted a semi-final draw since 2008, back when Charleston hosted and beat the then-USL Seattle Sounders.

Regardless of what happens against Red Bulls, it’s been such an epic US Open Cup run. It’s been like the Energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going and going. Hopefully, they can keep it going again. We’ll see you at the 2017 US Open Cup semi-finals!

UPDATE: Djiby will miss the semi-final match for an accumulation of yellow cards. 😬

USOC17: FC Cincinnati watch parties.

This evening FC Cincinnati played away to Miami FC in the quarter-finals of the 2017 US Open Cup. And there were numerous watch parties around the city and Northside was no exception. We headed down to Second Place to meet up with our friend JJ and one of her friends. We arrived about a half hour before the match and Second Place was already packed. There weren’t any open seats at the bar, in fact, there weren’t any open seats to be found in the whole place. It was standing room only…

And as the match got underway, it kept getting more and more crowded…

With the match still 0-0 at halftime, we decided to break camp and watch the second half just up the block at Higher Gravity. We made it just before it started pouring…

We managed to actually find a seat at Higher Gravity, and watch FC|C knock Miami FC out of the US Open Cup by the final score of 1-0…

Can you believe it? Our FC Cincinnati is moving on to the 2017 US Open Cup semi-finals! What an incredible night! 😀⚽️🏆❤️

Seen and noted.

We’ve had so many beautiful evenings lately. I could fill an entire blog with just photos of the evening skies and clouds above Northside. 😀☁️❤️

Good morning from Northside.

Good morning from Northside. Morning’s are always hard and come too early…

😀❤️

Fifty West Wednesdays.

This morning Genifer dropped me off on her way to work at an all-day brainstorming offsite meeting in out in Mariemont…

Our brainstorming was at The Barn, which is a great place for an offsite meeting just as soon you get over the fact that it’s all the way out in Mariemont…

After the offsite meeting, Genifer picked me up and we went to Fifty West

Every Wednesday at Fifty West is Burger & Beer Night. You can get a burger and a beer for just $12! Genifer got their BBQ Bacon Burger…

And I got their Mushroom Swiss burger…

Those were some pretty awesome burgers! And really good beers. I couldn’t imagine a better way to wind down a Wednesday when you find yourself out on the east side of town. 🙂

Pause for paws.

Oscar got his haircut today. He looks so handsome! Taken with Instagram. 🙂

Downtown details.

The Eduardo Kobra/Artworks mural on Walnut Street has been completed

Hands down, it’s one of my favorite Artworks murals. 🙂

Cincinnati Streetcar.

It feels like it’s been forever in the making. There were all the politics and then the construction, awaiting the arrival of the cars, then putting them on the rails and driving around for months on end without any passengers. But starting on September 9th, you’ll actually be able to ride the Cincinnati Streetcar, ahem… Cincinnati Bell Connector around downtown and Over-the-Rhine. This morning Deskey got an informative crash-course in Streetcar safety from the City of Cincinnati…

They also showed a bunch of super cute videos. I’m not even going to lie, I was initially very skeptical about the whole idea of the Streetcar. I thought it was an awful lot of money for a route that people could very easily bike or walk. But like they say, if you can’t beat them, join ’em. I’m excited to ride the Streetcar because it expands my lunch options exponentially. It’ll be pretty cool to be able to hop on one of these guys to ride up to Findlay Market, Taft’s Ale House or down to The Banks to get lunch…

And who knows maybe some day before we’re old and grey, the Cincinnati Streetcar
CB Connector will connect Northside and downtown. But I’m not holding my breath. 🙂

Lazy Sundays.

What is they say about the best laid plans? We planned to go over and check out Cincy Summer Streets on Hamilton Avenue in Northside. But we were lazy and slept in and then puttered and cleaned up a bit after last night’s little party. We ended up missing all of the Cincy Summer Streets festivities. And we were fine with that because it was stupid hot outside this afternoon. We were also planning to going over to checkout the last day of Bewilderfest at Urban Artifact

But we decided to wait to go until after we streamed the FC Cincinnati match against New York Red Bulls 2 live on YouTube. And that was a mistake. FC|C ended up losing 2-0. Both goals came on ridiculously absurd penalty calls, the first of which resulted in FC|C’s keeper being sent off in the 10th minute. It was farcical. Right then, we should have turned it off and gone and done something else. But we didn’t. We’re good fans. We suffered through that match. All the way until the final whistle. And as soon it was over, we started to get ready to head over to Bewilderfest. Then we heard a surprising loud thunder clap, looked outside to see this…

The sky looked like something out of Ghostbusters. And then it started pouring. The skies cleared a bit but it pretty much rained for the rest of the evening…

So we ended up being lazy and not really doing much all day. And I can’t say that I’m upset about that at all. 🙂
