My Favorite Year.

This evening our friend Jen was in a production of the classic musical comedy, My Favorite Year at the Aronoff Center presented by Cincinnati Music Theatre. We’ve never known anyone in an on-stage musical production so we had to go check it out. Genifer met me downtown before the performance, we got to check out the Cincy Holiday Pop-Shop and then we stopped for a drink before the performance at one of our favorite spots from when we still used to live downtown, Horse&Barrel

It’s one of Genifer’s favorite spots because she loves their Cold One & Old One…

It’s a draft beer and a little bourbon for just $5…

I don’t know why that photo is so fuzzy. I guess I should have cleaned my lens better. After our Cold One & Old One, we walked across the street to the Aronoff Center’s Jarson Kaplan Theater…

There’s our friend Jen…

We had really nice seats in one of the boxes overlooking the stage…

We sat in almost the same seats whenย we saw the Mersey Beatles in the same theater…

I snuck a couple of photos with my Polaroid CUBE+…

It was a good performance and our friend Jen was very, very good in her role…

On our way home from the performance, we stopped at Higher Gravity to try their latest special keg,ย Double Dunk by Prairie Ales, an Imperial Stout made with real Oreos!

It was a very good stout. I could have used about six or so more Oreos. They tasted so good when you dunked them in the stout. It made for a great nightcap to a really fun Friday evening. ๐Ÿ˜€๐ŸŽญโค๏ธ

Thursday nights.

We usually try to stop somewhere on our way home from work on Thursday evenings for a happy hour drink or a bit to eat since Genifer doesn’t have to work on Fridays. More often than not that place is Higher Gravity. They almost always have something fun happening on Thursday and tonight was no exception. Tonight, they tapped a keg ofย Banana Coconut Dragons Milkย Reserve from New Holland Brewing

It was a pretty incredible beer. So much banana and coconut but not too much. It was just the perfect amount of banana and coconut that paired really well with rich dark chocolate. It was so dang good. Before we headed home, we had a couple of slices of pizza from Chameleon

They have some really great slices. It was another pretty great Thursday night. And we were home and had the dogs walked before the Thursday night football game came on. That’s a good start to the almost weekend.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ•โค๏ธ

S’mores Night at Higher Gravity.

You have to hand it to Higher Gravity. Every Thursday night, they do something really interesting. Whether it’s a rare keg or Meet the Brewery, it’s almost always something we feel like we don’t want to miss. Tonight was no exception. It was Grateful Grahams S’mores Night with Braxton Brewing’s Dark Charge Imperial Stout

It was such a fun night. The Grateful Graham graham crackers were out of this world and made such amazing s’mores that really complimented Braxton’s delicious Dark Charge. Next Thursday’s event is Candy & Beer featuring the beers from Jackie O’s and Streetside paired with different Halloween candy…

And more than likely, we’ll see you there!ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿปโค๏ธ

ps. You can follow Genifer and Thadd on Untappd,ย if you’re into that sort of thing.

Happy birthday, Terry!

We walked down to Higher Gravity this afternoon. Our friends Kathryn and Terry were celebrating Terry’s birthday today with an awesome space dinosaur party…

Happy birthday, Terry! We hope you had a great birthday! We’re glad we got to help you celebrate your special day.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ

Sunday Funday.

This afternoon we walked down to Second Place for the second half of the Manchester City versus Liverpool match. there was a pretty good crowd on hand for the match…

Truth be told, we were at Second Place more for the cheeseburgers than the match…

They have some pretty amazing burgers at Second Place. The ManCity-Liverpool match ended in a 0-0 draw. We hung out to watch most of the Bengals game.ย And they actually won again. After the Bengals game, we walked to Higher Gravity. There weren’t very many people in Higher Gravity after the Bengals game this afternoon…

We watched the end of the Chiefs game with our friends Chris and Tayler. After they left, we met FC Cincinnati midfielder Corben Bone and his family. They stopped into Higher Gravity for a beer and a slice of pizza from Chameleon. We talked to them for a bit before they headed out. They live in Northside as well. Actually, they live just around the corner from us. And they were super nice. It was really neat to get to meet Corben Bone and get to talk soccer with him for a few minutes. We hope we run into them again sometime.

It was another really fun afternoon in Northside.ย ๐Ÿ˜€โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿปโค๏ธ

Meet the Brewery: Goodwood

Tonight’s edition of Higher Gravity‘s Meet the Brewery featured a couple of beers fromย Goodwood Brewing Co. out of Louisville. They had Goodwood’s Notorious ESB and Goodwood Bourbon Barrel Stout on tap which were served in super fancy Goodwood keg glasses…

Both beers were really tasty. Genifer’s stout had a creepy little ghost face in it…

Also kind of creepy was the sky this evening…

We hung out for a little bit. Then we picked up some delicious Chameleon pizza and incredible Nono BBQ wings and headed for home…

It was another fun Meet the Brewery night at HG!ย ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•โค๏ธ

Das boot night.

Tonight just happened to be Das Boot night at Higher Gravity with hefeweizen from Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery…

It was a pretty good hefe. And we got to take home our boots! We also got to try the new Braxton & Graeters Pumpkin Pie collaboration…ย

It was really good. Very pumpkiny. But it’s still just a little bit too early for me to be drinking pumpkin beers. As soon as it starts to feel more like fall outside, it’s on. I also saw this beer from Streetside that sounded interesting but we didn’t try it…

Maybe next time. However, we did bring this guy home this guy…

it was another fun Thursday night at Higher Gravity in Northside.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ‘ข๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŒžโค๏ธ

Northside Saturday.

We walked down to Meltย for lunchย again this afternoon…

Genifer had the Rachel. Again. In our opinion, it’s one of the best sammiches in all of Cincinnati, if not the whole world. I always get the Rachel as well. Sometimes I’ll get a Hoffner. But today, I finally broke down and tried the Pad Thai Wrap that I’ve been eyeballing for quite some time now…

It was really good. Melt makes incredible sammiches and mac & cheese too…

After lunch, we shared a whiskey sour made with egg whites. Delicious.

Then we stopped in Higher Gravity for a beer. Today, we tried Streetside’s OhEmG!

And oh my gosh, was that beer good. It was like a mouthful of raspberries without all the annoying little seeds. We also tried Streetside’s collaboration with Platform called Be A Lot Cooler If You Did too…

If was really good too but not nearly as good as the OhEmG! That was just… wow.

Northside is fun. We love it here. And we consider ourselves very lucky to have a wonderful home in this neighborhood.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿกโค๏ธ

Urban Artifact Smoothie Bar.

This evening at Higher Gravity, they had an Urban Artifact Smoothie Bar…

You choose your Urban Artifact beer and then you choose from a variety of fruit juices to add to your beer to create your smoothie. We tried a Berry Banana Blast Smoothie…

And my favorite was the Strawberry Banana Smoothie…

Higher Gravity is always doing something different and fun.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿบโค๏ธ

FC Cincinnati versus Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

ITโ€™S FC CINCINNATI MATCH DAY FIFTEEN! Our first place FC Cincinnati was taking on third place Pittsburgh Riverhounds. We stopped at Mac’s Pizza Pub before the match. We always do. They have a gameday special with a small two-topping pizza for just $5. And their pizza is delicious…

And then it’s onto Nippert Stadium…

I took most of these photos with my new Samsung Galaxy Note9. The others I took with my Polaroid CUBE+. I’ve been pretty impressed with the Note9 as a phone and the phone’s camera overall is pretty outstanding. But it definitely doesn’t zoom capabilities of my old Samsung Galaxy S camera. It has the best zoom I’ve ever seen. When you zoom with the Note9, the photos start to get a little fuzzy…

Oh well. HERE WE GO…

At the half, the match was still knotted at 0-0. That meant it was time for… SPRINKLES!!!

And we’re back underway…

Pittsburgh jumped out to 1-0 lead…

GOAL! FC CINCINNATI!ย FC Cincinnati leveled the match at 1-1.ย Manu found Dekel Keinan’s head off a free kick to tie the game…

And then FC Cincinnati’s first MLS designated player signing, Fanendo Adi gave FC|C a 2-1 lead with his first goal for the club. And after scoring he ran straight to FC Cincy head coach, Alan Koch to pick him up with a huge bear hug…

Adi scoring his first goal and running to hug Coach Koch will definitely be one of the most memorable moments of this season for me. I keep missing the match attendance but I saw afterward that there were 25,735 at tonight’s match

The match ended 2-1 with FC|C extending their undefeated streak to 16 games

With the win, FC Cincinnati clinched a spot in the USL Playoffs…

FC|C is the first team this season to clinch a spot in the postseason. After the match, we grabbed at Uber to Higher Gravity to celebrate the win with a beer and a slice of pizza and some No-no BBQ Wings from Northside’s Chameleon Pizza…

You can’t beat that for a Saturday evening, an FC|C comeback win, clinching a spot in the playoffs and two different types of pizza. It was a good day.ย ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ•โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ•โค๏ธ

At some point, I’d like to go watch a Pittsburgh Riverhounds home match. Their stadium seems really unique. It’s right on the river and in between the stadium and their river are train tracks. We’ve watched FC|C play away to Riverhounds and you’ll be watching the match and then a train will come speeding by seemingly out of nowhere. I’m also hoping that they have a hot dog called the Riverdog. Because if they don’t it’s really a missed opportunity. maybe next summer, we’ll be able to take a road trip to Pittsburgh.
