The City Flea: July edition.

Today was July edition of The City Flea at Washington Park. It’s been a while since we’ve been to our last edition of The City Flea. With FC Cincinnati playing away to those stinkers down in Louisville, we didn’t have very much to do today. At all. So we drove down into Over-the-Rhine and parked the Jetta in the Town Center Garage behind Music Hall on Central Parkway for just $3…

By the way, the surface lot just on the other side of Central Parkway next to Music Hall was charging a whopping $10 to park. So if you think about it, we kinda started our Flea seven dollars ahead!  And speaking of Music Hall, it looked like they’ve been making a lot of progress on Music Hall’s rather extensive and elaborate renovations…

Someday I’m actually going to actually get one of these Ebbet’s Field ball caps

Afterwards, we stopped into Sundry and Vice for a drink…

It was a great to wander around The City Flea again. And the drinks were delicious! 😀

Queen City Radio.

After work this evening, I walked up to 12th and Central Parkway to meet Genifer and our realtor, JJ for a drink at the relatively new, Queen City Radio

Another new really fun place! I love how more and more of the bars and restaurants that are opening here and there are including large outdoor patio spaces. 🙂

Mecca OtR.

After Ciderfest, we walked over to 15th and Walnut Streets to check out a pretty new artsy bar callled Mecca OtR. Mecca is owned by the same people that Cheapside

Mecca has great murals for days. And every restroom has custom artwork…

And I completely forgot to take a photo of Mecca’s incredible outdoor patio…

Mecca has these great, inventive drinks called Chuggers with one of those little airline liquor bottles inverted in a can of San Pellegrino…

Such a great idea…

Great place. I’m glad we finally got to check out Mecca. 🙂

Porkopolis Pig & Whiskey Festival.

It was hard to believe that today was already the first day of October…

We rode the 17 bus downtown to the Porkopolis Pig & Whiskey Festival. Last year, it took place on Horseshoe Casino’s event lawn, and was really a lot of fun. This year’s 2nd annual Pig & Whiskey Festival took place at Washington Park. And I have to say when we walked up, we were a little underwhelmed…

The sizeable event lawn at Washington Park kind of swallowed the event whole…

But we had some time to kill before the start of the Reds game, so we got some tickets and soldiered on for some BBQ and whiskey…

First, we tried whiskey infused with sake. A bold new liquor experience bringing the best of East meets West from Karate Cowboy

They were offering a couple of different cocktails. A pineapple mule…

And a honey cran apple cider…

So we tried one of each. Both were absolutley delightful…

We also tried a root beer flavored bourbon from Rebel Yell

For food, we started with The Pockey from Huit…

Asian style ground pork with Chihuahua Cheese rolled in a flour torilla, deep fried and sauced with Huit’s house made sweet sambai…

Delicious and surprisingly filling. And we shared some really incredible St. Louis style ribs from Just Q’in…

Amazing ribs. The meat fell right off the bone. I was also going to get some burnt ends from Velvet Smoke BBQ but we couldn’t find the room to put them away…

So we got a Jack Tennessee Fire and Canadian Dry instead, which is a delicious cocktail…

And the Met Life Blimp was hovering over Washington Park the whole time…

Pig & Whiskey was definitely more fun last year. But we got to sample some alcohols we wouldn’t have normally got to try. We definitely want to add both Karate Cowboy flavors, and the Rebel Yell root beer bourbon to our home bar reserves. And whenever you get to hang out at Washington Park and gaze at Music Hall, it’s never a bad afternoon…🙂

Second Sunday on Main: June edition.

Today was the first Second Second on Main of the season. SSoM is OtR’s eclectic monthly street festival on Main Street. It’s hard to believe but SSoM is entering it’s 11th year of Sunday Fundays!

We stopped into Lucca, who were celebrating their one year anniversary. Such cute stuff…

And I loved this painting at Urban Eden…

It started to look like it might storm…

But it didn’t. A drop or two and then the storm clouds blew right over. We found the home of OtR’s new florist, Gia & The Blooms

And we hope these guys are back in for the July SSoM…

We’d definitely like to check out their jerk! We didn’t get a chance to check them out today.

It was another great SSoM! July’s edition of  Second Sunday on Main will take place on Sunday, July 10 with the theme of MAINpride –  featuring the annual Drag Races and more, presented by Below Zero Lounge. A very appropriate celebration of all things pride in the wake the horrific tragedy that just took place in Orlando. 😩

The Rook Board Game Parlor.

This evening we walked up Vine Street into Over-the-Rhine to check out the brand new board game parlor called The Rook

The Rook is Cincinnati’s first Board Game Parlor, and features nearly 1000 board games along with a full service bar and restaurant serving game night classics!

Growing up, we used to play Rack-O a lot…

I remember playing Hi-Ho Cherry-O…

And classics like Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land…

They had all sorts of drinks with nostalgic touchs like adding a candy necklace garnish, or a pop rock or pixie stick cover rim…

Genifer started with a Tequila Sunny D Rise…

We ordered everything from the “Straight from the Game Table” section of the menu. We tried the traditional classic rolls, bacon & sharp cheddar dogs and the cheesy buffalo chicken tots…

Everything was really good. But hands down the winner was the traditional classic rolls…

Then we got into some games. We started Chutes & Ladders and Candy Land…

And then we dove into some Sorry!

Genifer also tried the Capri Against Humanity drink…

How fun is that? We also played a few rounds of Exploding Kittens and multiple hands of Uno! It was a really fun trip down memory lane. And definitely one that we look forward to taking again very soon! Such a few evening! 🙂

Hustle Home Run Derby.

On this rainy Thursday evening, we went up into Over-the-Rhine to Rhinegeist

They were hosting their Hustle Home Run Derby for a Cause…

unnamed

It was the launch of Rhinegeist’s Hustle Rye Pale Ale, and wiffle ball home run derby! A $5 donation got participants 10 swings and the chance to win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place. All proceeds benefit Bow Tie Cause and Butler County Challenger Baseball

Prizes included a limited edition Rhinegeist-branded bat from Louisville Slugger, free tickets to the Galloping Pig annual polo event and Rhinegeist merch. There were also ballpark style hot dogs provided by Dutch’s Larder…

With the launch of Rhinegeist’s Hustle Rye Pale Ale, you got to take home a Hustle pint glass for $1 with the purchase of a Hustle Rye Pale Ale…

I think I’ve just found a brand new favorite pint glass for Reds baseball season!

And then it was finally my turn…

I didn’t hit any home runs. I made some good contact but had a couple of swings and misses too. Still, it was a blast of an evening. Bring on baseball season! 🙂

Brunch at Ché.

Early this afternoon, we walked up Walnut Street into Over-the-Rhine to check out ChĂ©, the new Argentinian restaurant/bar that “uses fine ingredients and traditional methods to produce exceptional artisanal empanadas, meats, pizzas charcuteries, soups & stews.” We’ve been wanting to check out ChĂ© for a bit. But we couldn’t manage to fit in a visit before we left for Jamaica. Today, we got to check out ChĂ©’s brunch…

ChĂ© makes their own Bloody Mary mix in house. And they are out of this world…

Genifer ordered the El Huevo Escoces, the Argentinian take on the Scottish Egg served with cheesy homestyle potatoes with salsa…

And it was pretty dang amazing. A hard-boiled egg wrapped in bacon and tucked inside an empanada… WOW!

Absolute delicious genius. I tried the La Trifecta. Because I love me some empanadas. So give me tres!

All of the empanadas were incredible. But it was pretty much a toss-up between the spinach or the ham & cheese empanada for my favorite…

It was an incredible brunch. One of the best we’ve had a while. And it was a great place. I loved their decor.

We’ll definitely be back for brunch! We can’t wait to try ChĂ©’s lunch and dinner menus! 🙂

Holiday shopping in OtR.

Work gave me a half-day off today to do some holiday shopping. So we ventured up into Over-the-Rhine’s Gateway Quarter to check out the relatively new Elm & Iron

We went over to check out the new Victor Athletics Club on Republic Street…

But they’re closed on Monday. So we wandered back down Vine Street…

To Gateway Quarter staple, Mica 12/v

Soooo much incredible stuff! It would be pretty amazing to be able to run the social media for these places especially their Instagram accounts. 🙂
