Fun stuff makes therapy better.

This morning Mack had a vet appointment to get updated on his vaccinations. And then later in the morning, I had physical therapy. We left a little bit early to stop for breakfast at Sleepy Bee in Oakley. It was so good. Genifer had The Worker Bee breakfast slam…

And I had The Broakley breakfast sammich…

Then it was on to physical therapy…

Later in the afternoon, we stopped at Taft’s Brewpourium for a beer while we watched the kickoff of the new season of English Premier League soccer between Leicester City (hooray!) and Manchester United (boo!)…

And we had some knots with beer cheese and a little pizza…

Unfortunately, Leicester lost 2-1. But Jamie Vardy scored so that’s something good.

Physical therapy hasn’t been bad. And I actually look forward to it because my hips feel much better afterward. But sandwiching it in between a couple of really fun activities makes it even better. 😀🍳🏥🍺🍕⚽️❤️

This is what I’ve waiting for.

This morning was my very first physical therapy with two new hips. I’ve been waiting so long for this moment. I’m very excited to start working on making both legs stronger…

I look forward to the day when I can walk again without any pain or discomfort. And hopefully, that day is quickly approaching very soon. Taken with Instagram. 😀🏥❤️

Physical therapy.

Late this afternoon I rode the Metro 24 bus from work downtown up one of Cincinnati’s many hills into Mount Auburn to make my way back again to The Christ Hospital Joint & Spine Center. Metro made it a piece of cake to get up to The Christ Hospital. The bus ride was super easy and dropped me off right in front of the hospital. I was back at the Joint & Spine Center because today was my scheduled physical therapy re-evaluation of my left hip replacement after the revision surgery. They do evaluation testing to get baseline measurements for the current range of motion of my hip. Those numbers are then submitted to the insurance company to determine approximately how many physical therapy sessions it will take to get today’s baseline measurements to return to as close as possible to the full range of motion for my hip…

Genifer met me at therapy so she didn’t have to come all the way downtown just to turn around and take me right back in the direction she just came from.

Everything went really well with the therapy. The therapist I was working with today said that the baseline measurements looked very good. And gave me some new exercises to do at home to strengthen my hip. The physical therapist also told me that he had been working at The Christ Hospital for the last ten years and during that time my hip revision surgery was just the third one that he had heard of at The Christ Hospital. So I guess what happened to me was a very, very rare occurrence.

Now, I have the first six sessions of physical therapy scheduled for my hip starting next Wednesday. I can’t wait to get back into therapy and really start the strengthening my hip so my hip can start to get back to normal. For the first time in years, I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally. 😀🏥❤️

My last physical therapy.

Today was my final session physical therapy for my right hip…

The physical therapy has made such a huge difference. My hip feels so much better than it has in a really long time. And the best part is my hip doesn’t hurt anymore. I can’t wait to start the process all over again with my left hip. 😀🏥❤️

Almost finished.

I thought today was my last physical therapy appointment. I was so excited to be finished with this round of physical therapy. But it turns out that I still have two more sessions until I’m finished next week. Usually, I can see downtown when I look out the window while I’m doing my therapy but today it was so foggy you wouldn’t even know that downtown was just down the hill…

I’ll get to admire this view just two more times and then I won’t get to see it again until the beginning of July. 😀🌁❤️

Physical therapy.

I’ve been going to physical therapy for my hip twice a week at The Christ Hospital Joint and Spine Center…

It hasn’t been bad. Every session gets a little bit harder but in baby steps. I’ve heard people describe their physical therapy as physical torture. But mine seems to be really helping. I’ve already moved from two crutches to one crutch to a cane. And I can walk around the house unassisted without any additional support. I can take stairs one at a time again instead of having to put both feet on each and every stair. I can see progress being made. And it hasn’t been that bad at all. It’s a bit sore afterward. But the next day, it feels better than ever. I hope it stays that way. 😀🏥❤️

Physical therapy x Higher Gravity.

I had my first session of physical therapy for my hip this evening…

It went pretty good. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. But then again, nothing about this entire hip replacement process has been as bad as I thought it would be. Not even close. At all. I thought every step of this process was going to be far more grueling and painful than it’s actually turned out to be. So in my mind, I either really overexaggerated how horrible an experience I thought this would be and braced for the worst possible scenario at each and every step of this process, or this has been a study in the best possible case scenario for a complete hip replacement. At the end of June, I’ll be having my left hip replaced. It’ll be interesting to see how that experience compares to this experience. I hope it’s very much the same, an identical experience or an even better experience than what I am working through right now. Because this really hasn’t been that bad at all.

Anyway. After my first physical therapy session, we stopped at Higher Gravity for a beer. We hadn’t been to HG for almost three weeks. The last time we were there was to watch Xavier knock off Georgetown in OT back at the beginning of February…

We stopped in tonight because we wanted to try #11, the Hawaiian Speedway Stout

And it was awesome! It was also awesome to be able to get out of the house and do something again…

Only 10 more physical therapies to go! 😀🍻❤️
