Thanks for the memories, Timehop!😀🦕❤️AND #GoBLUE! 😀🏀1⃣❤️

One year ago.

One year ago today, we were watching Western Michigan University hockey on TV and saw my parents right there, front and center…

That was pretty neat. Thanks for the memories, Timehop! 😀🦕❤️

Let’s GO X!

I left work a little early today to hop on the Metro Plus…

And I rode the Metro Plus up to Listermann across the street from Xavier…

Here’s what was on tap at Listermann tonight

There I met our friend Chris who happens to work for Xavier. He got us tickets for tonight’s Big East matchup between the Georgetown Hoyas and our Xavier Musketeers…

One of my earliest basketball memories is watching the Big East Conference in its heyday when Lou Carnesecca was coaching Chris Mullin at St. John’s, Rollie Massimino was coaching Ed Pinckney at Villanova, PJ Carlesimo was at Seton Hall, Jim Boeheim was well on his way at Syracuse and… John Thompson was coaching Patrick Ewing at Georgetown.

Fast forward to today and now Patrick Ewing is the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas and he’s standing right down there on the court of Cintas Center…

By the way, ESPN made an outstanding 30-for-30 documentary called “Requiem For The Big East” about the meteoric rise of the Big East Conference. And how it became one of the most successful college sports leagues in America. Incredible documentary. If you love college basketball and get a chance, it is definitely worth watching.

Xavier trailed by seventeen at one point in the first half. But they went on a run to close the gap to being down just five at halftime…

And Xavier would go on to win the game 81-75!

One of the cool, relatively new features of Cintas Center is the popular Norwood Café, more commonly known as The Woods. Norwood Cafe used to be located at the corner of Dana and Cleneay. It was demolished in 2008 to make room for construction of University Station, including Xavier’s All for One Shop. Renovations to Cintas Center for the 2017/18 season saw the recreation of the cafe on the upper concourse. And they brought in the original 100-year-old cherryback bar that spanned the 35 feet of The Woods’ main gathering space along with a close representation of the tile floor and the original chandelier…

Pretty neat stuff. Here’s a cool video about the renovations. In front of the area are terraces where you can stand and watch the game with your beverage. And we love standing and watching sports. Also cool was the fact that back when Xavier used to have a football team, they were involved in the first doubleheader in college football…

Who knew?! It was a great time. Thanks again to Chris and Tayler for getting us tickets! Let’s GO X! 😀🏀❤️

FC Cincinnati’s Inaugural MLS Schedule.

FC Cincinnati’s Inaugural MLS Home Schedule has been released…

Pretty exciting stuff. It’s going to be really cool to see some of the biggest names in MLS playing at Nippert Stadium in a few months. 😀⚽️🏆❤️

Fantasy football wrap-up.

I played fantasy football again this season…

36496598773_1944734904_o

For whatever reason this season, our league at work never kicked off. I’m not sure what happened there. But I still played five teams for just the fun of playing fantasy football.
I ended up with a combined record of 39-26 for the season. This season I named all of my teams some sort form of Bears…

My Firey Bears ended up in sixth place after going 5-8 during the regualr season. Team Auction AutoDraft ended in fifth at 7-6. My Growly Bears ended in fourth at 9-4 and Hungry Bears also ended in fourth after running riot in their league, thumping teams every week gto go 10-3 before completely collapsing in the championship semifinals.

My Blocky Bears went 8-5 during the regular season and were the only team I had that made the leauge championship matchup this season. And they were the only team I had that actually won their league…

So once again, I can call myself fantasy football champion. I think fantasy football is so much fun. It makes the football season really interesting and enjoyable, especially when you win. 😀🏈🏆❤️

Dana’s Gardens.

Today was a big sports day. So this afternoon we went with a bunch of friends to Dana’s Gardens just across the street from the campus of Xavier University to watch Xavier play basketball away to the DePaul Blue Demons…

It’s just a great little hole in the wall sports bar. As it turns out, it’s also an official Everton supporters bar. My Arsenal was playing Liverpool this afternoon. So there were no shortage of people pulling for the Arsenal to beat Liverpool. And Michigan was playing Florida in their bowl game. All at the same time. And Dana’s had the TVs to have all those games on. I’m irritated with myself that I completely forgot to take a photo of the inside of Dana’s. But it’s just a little low ceiling dive bar. And like I said, they have a bunch of TVs. They also have really cheap drinks and equally cheap but really great food. It was also one of those places that had a lot of words of wisdom in the restroom…

It was a really fun time…

Xavier beat DePaul by ten but Arsenal got thumped 5-1 by Liverpool. 😀🏀⚽️❤️

Three years ago.

We’ve loved every minute of it. And we’re still going strong! Bring on MLS! 😀🦕⚽️❤️

This event has been blacked out.

I went to watch local basketball tonight’s showdown between the Norse of Northern Kentucky and those Bearcats from Cincinnati. I don’t think Cincinnati usually plays NKU. But at least this season, Cincinnati has played nothing but cupcakes. The only ranked team they’ve played so far was Ohio State and the Bearcats lost by 12. Anyway. I wanted to see how the Norse would do against Cincinnati. I tuned into ESPN3 to watch the game only to find the game blacked out. I don’t know why they have to do stuff that like that…

On Fox Sports Ohio was the Cleveland Cavaliers game, but I ended up being able to find the game through the Fox Sports GO app and then stream it to our TV through our Google Chromecast. Ugh. But by the time I finally figured all that out, Cincinnati was well in control of the game…

The Norse would fall to Cincinnati 78-65. I used to be pretty neutral about Cincinnati Bearcats basketball. I didn’t really care one way or another. But their coach just rubs me the wrong way. There is a smugness or arrogance about him that just really rubs me the wrong way.

After the holidays, I’d like to try to find tickets to go see the Norse play at home. That would be pretty fun. We’ve never been to a NKU Norse basketball game. 😀🏀☠️❤️

Let’s GO X!

We had tickets for this afternoon’s Xavier Men’s basketball game against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. We bought our tickets a while back after discovering how silly cheap you could get tickets for events on  StubHub. Unfortunately, you can’t purchase good weather. It was pouring down rain this morning on our way to the game…

I made it through yet another metal detector without my hips set off the alarms…

It’s been a while since we’ve been to a Xavier game

I don’t remember the player introductions being so cool

We figured out there’s a place to stand up behind the seats. We like standing…

Xavier was leading at halftime…

It was kind of an ugly game. But Xavier won 73-63! That’s three in a row for X!

On the way out of Cintas Center, they gave everyone 20% off coupons at the Xavier team shop. We looked in the shop inside Cintas Center but they didn’t have any sizes…

So we walked down to the All For One Shop. And they had everything Xavier…

We both got Xavier sweatshirts to wear to our next Xavier game. 😀✖️🏀❤️

On our way home, we stopped at Taft’s Brewpourium for a beer, some loaded tots and a pepperoni&sausage apizza…

It was a really fun Saturday! 😀🍕❤️

Timehopping.

Last night, the Red Sox won the World Series. This morning this popped up in my Timehop from five years ago…

I love it when teams I like win. Thanks, Timehop! 😀🦕❤️
