Happy Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day! This morning thousands of people gathered at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to watch the famous groundhog deliver his highly anticipated forecast. Superstition states a sunny sky on February 2 would mean a cold and stormy remainder of winter, while a cloudy sky means a quicker warm-up. Phil emerged from his burrow around 7:25am and did not see his shadow, signaling an early spring for us all…

CNN had a great article on the history of Groundhog Day. And how the groundhog’s predictions are usually wrong…

In the past decade, Phil has predicted a longer winter seven times and an early spring three times. He was right about 40% of the time, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which says the groundhog shows no predictive skill. “You’re better off trying to decide what the rest of February and March will look like by flipping a coin,” said CNN meteorologist Judson Jones. But the people who know Phil best don’t exactly see it that way. A.J. Dereume, one of the groundhog’s handlers, insists Phil’s predictions have a 100% accuracy rate — they just get lost in translation.

According to lore, the president of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club is the only person who can interpret Phil’s message. Every year, the groundhog sits on his tree stump and conveys his prediction to the club president, who then directs the vice president to read from a scroll that corresponds with the year’s forecast. “Phil is the one deciding whether or not he’s seen the shadow,” Dereume says. “It’s not up to us. All we do is deliver his message.” Either way, human forecasters don’t mind having the alternate prediction out there in case their own projections go askew. “People like to have something to blame for the weather, and the groundhog is the perfect thing to blame,” Jones said. “It’s better than blaming your meteorologist.”

I didn’t realize so many people turned out to see the groundhog. And when did the groundhog day tradition turn to the groundhog picking a scroll? I thought it all was determined by his shadow. It’s such a funny tradition. 😀🦔❤️

Also funny, was the Jeep Groundhog Day commercial starring Bill Murray during the Superb Owl? It was in one of my top three commercials from this year’s Big Game.

Our Saturday.

This morning we got up early and went to Trader Joe’s and then to Kroger for groceries. Afterward, we stopped at Biggby Coffee for our weekend morning drinks…

It was kind of a sports Saturday. We watched Leicester draw with Chelsea, Xavier beat #10 Seton Hall, the second half of Wolves super boring draw with United, Michigan beat #25 Rutgers. And later, #23 Wichita State lost to Tulsa. The two underdogs we were cheering for won but the favorited Shockers lost and both of our soccer teams drew.

We finished watching 11.22.63 on Hulu. It was really good. We wished it would have kept going for more episodes. We started watching a new series on Netflix. This one is  called The Stranger. It seems like another pretty good one. 😀☕️⚽️🏀📺❤️

The internet is pretty funny.

Ha. The internet can be a pretty funny place. 😂🤣❤️

It’s the best feeling.

I survived another pretty hectic week at work. It’s funny to me. My old job was a total cakewalk. It wasn’t very challenging. The people I worked with weren’t very appreciative of any amount of effort. And as a result, I never really felt like part of the team. It wasn’t great by any stretch of the imagination and I stayed there way too long.

My job now is definitely challenging. The deadlines are pretty intense. I have to work on projects in the evenings and sometimes over the weekends. But the efforts I make are noticed and very much appreciated. And I feel like an integral, valued part of the team.
I divide my time between two teams that service multiple clients. Big clients. I get to participate in client meetings and the clients appreciate the efforts as well.

Sometimes deadlines for the two teams overlap and it creates a bottleneck like it did this week. I had two big projects both with deadlines on Friday. It was a pretty stressful week, compounded by the fact that I took my birthday off. I had a bunch of stuff to get done and the asks kept evolving. But I got everything all done and done well. And when everything was finally done, it was the best feeling in the world.

I really like being busy at work. And I really like feeling part of the team. It’s rewarding.
I really like my job. I really like the work, I really like where I work,

And I love this view

The only bad part after a long week is I don’t feel like doing much of anything afterward.😀🏙️❤️

My Swarm January recap.

I got another Swarm monthly recap

I still really like my check-ins on Swarm! 😀⭐️❤️

It’s what’s for dinner.

Tonight for dinner, Genifer made Trader Ming’s Chicken Chow Mein from Trader Joe’s…

It was another really good Asian dinner from Trader Joe’s freezer section just like our favorites: Mandarin Orange Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken. 😀🥡❤️

Happy National Croissant Day.

Today was National Croissant Day. I had mine with sausage, egg, and cheese…

And I got chocolate milk to go with my sammich…

Caffe Barrista on Fourth Street has amazing breakfast sammiches. 😀🥐❤️

Genifer usually drops me off at work right around 8:30 in the morning. I dropped my backpack at my desk, walked down Fourth Street to get my haircut, walked back down Fourth Street to get a breakfast sammich and got back to work before most people had even set foot in the building. It’s kind of crazy how both Genifer and I have transitioned to become morning people. And I like it.

Camp Washington Chili.

After Cincinnati Museum Center, we continued my birthday theme of celebrating with things that are Cincinnati wonderful. And we stopped for lunch at another place that’s older than I am, Camp Washington Chili

I’d had Camp Washington Chili at the Coney Eating Contests on Fountain Square but we’d never been to their restaurant for some reason. We thought we’d change that today for my birthday lunch…

Genifer ordered two chili cheese sammiches…

I ordered a patty melt and a cheese coney and we shared some french fries…

Everything was delicious! And there was so much stuff on their menu that sounded great. I can’t wait to come back to Camp Washington Chili because next time I have to try their 513 Way…

It’s three slabs of goetta topped with chili, beans, onions, and cheese. It doesn’t get much more Cincinnati than that. Before we left, we got a couple of pieces of cake for us to eat later…

Genifer got carrot cake because she loves carrot cake…

And I got chocolate cake for my birthday cake…

What a delicious birthday lunch. Thanks, Camp Washington Chili! 😀🧀🌭🎂❤️

ps. I had a really great birthday. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Apollo 11, dinosaurs & Museum Center.

After getting my license renewed, we headed over Cincinnati Museum Center

The last time we were here the rotunda was still undergoing a massive renovation

Museum Center was hosting the final stop of an exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service called Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission all about the Apollo 11 moon landing…

First, we found The Neil Armstrong Space Exploration Gallery, a new permanent exhibit that celebrates the legacy of the historic Apollo 11 mission…

The gallery is centered around a 360-degree immersive theater experience, transporting guests to the excitement and trepidation of the summer of 1969…

And then we found the Destination Moon exhibit, we had walked right by it…

On July 24, 1969, the Apollo 11 mission met President Kennedy’s 1961 challenge of “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth” before the end of the decade. Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission explores and honors that great achievement using genuine flown artifacts from the Apollo 11 mission on loan from the National Air and Space Museum. Featuring the Apollo command module Columbia — the only portion of the historic spacecraft to survive the lunar journey — the exhibition explores the birth and development of the American space program and the space race in time for the 50th anniversary of humankind’s greatest scientific achievement.

Destination Moon gives guest the rare opportunity to see artifacts that made the 953,000-mile journey possible, like Buzz Aldrin’s gold-plated extravehicular helmet visor and thermal-insulated gloves. The dizzying star chart that helped Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins navigate the historic journey and the rucksack and survival kit that accompanied the astronauts are also included.

The star of the exhibition was the Columbia command module, on display outside the National Air and Space Museum for the first time since 1976…

It’s the only part of the Apollo 11 spacecraft to return intact to Earth. It was the three-person crew’s living quarters for most of the mission, from Cape Kennedy to the Moon’s orbit, to splashdown in the Pacific Ocean…

I really love space stuff. And it was a truly amazing exhibit!

I also wanted to see Cincinnati Museum Center’s new Dinosaur Hall in the Museum of Natural History & Science

And we explored the limestone cave

We also wandered through the Public Landing in the Cincinnati History Museum

Cincinnati Museum Center is such an incredible Cincinnati gem…

I’m so glad it was restored to all its former glory…

I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my birthday! Apollo 11, dinosaurs, caves and the public landing all inside of historic Union Terminal. And the best part was… it was all older than me. And it made me feel so young at heart. What more could you ask for on your birthday? 😀🌕🦕❤️

Happy birthday to me!

Today was my birthday! We both took the day off work. Because the only thing worse than a Wednesday birthday is having to go to work on a Wednesday birthday…

We started our day with some Biggby coffees

And then we went over to the BMV around the corner from Biggby on Red Bank Road to get the new tags for our Jetta and I had to renew my license this year…

We got our tags. I renewed my license. And I passed my vision test… without having to use my glasses! That’s a pretty good thing because last week, I cracked my glasses in two when I was putting my laptop into my backpack one morning…

Bummer about my glasses. Hooray for renewing my license without them.

After we got the BMV out of the way, we could have some birthday fun. 😀☕️👓❤️
