#JJVECincy2021 Sunday.

Our morning started off with knocking around the soccer ball in our backyard…

And we took the dogs on their morning walk…

Violette and Edgerton took turns walking Captain Oskey…

Good morning from Northside…

We walked to Sidewinder to get breakfast and coffees…

And we walked Up Hamilton Avenue to eat our breakfast at Jergen’s Park..

And we got to play at another playground…

After playing in the park, we walked home through Parker Woods…

After a bit, we headed down into Over-the-Rhine…

We parked at Washington Park and walked to Taft’s Ale House for lunch…

Lunch was delicious. We walked back down to Washington Park…

So the kids could play in the fountains…

And they got to play on the playgrounds…

Then we walked over to get rolled ice cream…

The ice cream was delicious! Thanks Simply Rolled!

We had a really great time down in OtR…

On our way back to Northside, we drove by the new soccer stadium in the West End…

When we got home, we took the dogs around the block. Violette and Edgerton took turns walking Captain Oskey again…

Good eveinng from Northside…

Violette wanted to rake the stones in our backyard…

We fired up the grill and made some burgers and hot dogs…

When we were at Taft’s Ale House, Surf’s Up was coming on one of the TVs in the bar. The kids became enamored with the movie. So this evening, we watched it in our backyard…

It was a pretty good movie. The kids really seemed to like it.

It was another really wonderful day with JJVE. We had the most amazing Sunday. It was the best day again. 😀🌄🏡😍🥰❤️

Tiny little worlds.

We’ve noticed this little plant growing through a crack in the sidewalk while we were walking the dogs the last couple of days…

We’ve been calling it the little world. We’ve wondered if there is little life living in there that think they are living in a vast wilderness only to discover their vast wilderness is just a small blip on sidewalk leading up to a forest…

Still, the resilience of nature is pretty incredible. It reminds me of the powerful TV spot about Derrick Rose narrated by Tupac Shakur. 😀🌳❤️

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature’s law is wrong it
learned to walk without having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

–Tupac Shakur

A walk through Parker Woods.

Mack had to go to the vet this morning. He’s been under the weather. We got him some medicine that will hopefully get him back to his old self very soon. When we got home from the vet, we took a walk through Parker Woods

It was such a pretty morning. Mack had some of his medicine and laid down for a nap…

And hopefully, he’ll start feeling better really soon. 😀🐾❤️

A walk in the woods.

We took the buddies on a long walk through the woods this afternoon…

Genifer pointed out that the ninja turtles must live in there…

It’s pretty incredible that we have all this amazing green space right behind our house to go explore with the dogs. We love it. 😀🌳🐾❤️

Good evening from Parkers Woods.

While Genifer rested after her Lasik surgery, I took the dogs on their evening walk through the Parkers Woods Reserve at the end of our street…

We’ve been walking the dogs along this path almost every evening after work…

A few weekends back, we explored part of this trail

At the end of the trail, we turned around and headed back home…

There are a lot of little side paths…

After playing a little bit in the backyard, they were all crashed out…

It’s all about just trying to wear the dogs out. 😀🌳🐶🐾❤️

Parkers Woods.

Up the hill at the end of our street lies a rather vast wooded area known as Parkers Woods Nature Preserve and just beyond that is Buttercup Valley Preserve. According to what I was reading on the Cincinnati Parks websiteParkers Woods was the northern limit of the 266-acre farm purchased by the Langland family in 1822. In 1911, Alexander Langland Parker, a grandson of its original owner, sold 27.5 acres to the Park Board. And another parcel of land was added 1953. Parker Woods offers 2 trails: a paved trail and a woodland trail. The Parkers Preserve trails are great for someone looking for a small walk through the woods. According to the website, Buttercup Valley offers more intense hiking for the avid nature hiker. It has some steep inclines and very wooded trails. Trails that will make you forget you’re still in the city. One trail will take you to an area called the Flats which apparently, is a prairie meadow. And the other trail will take you to Crawford Avenue where you can see the National Historic Landmark, Spring Grove Cemetery. It’s one of only seven cemeteries to hold this national honor.

In 1973, the Board of Park Commissioners received 21.21 acres of land at the east end of Stanford Drive and Northview Drive and a .63 acre tract at the corner of Craven Avenue and Fergus Street for use as a nature preserve. And Buttercup Valley Preserve was formed. It was dedicated on Arbor Day, April 26, 1974. Additional acreage was purchased for a current total of 25.67 acres.

Both preserves are beautiful pieces of forest which have been untouched since the pioneer days. The website was saying that some of the trees in the valley are over 200 years old. They are home to various flora and fauna. Buttercup Valley is a hiker’s dream nestled right in the heart of urban neighborhoods. They are both considered the gems of Northside.

Whew! Long story short, it was a pretty day and we took the dogs to explore a little bit of the trails of Parkers Woods

It was so pretty out in the woods. We ended up walking the trails in Parkers Woods for almost an hour and a half but we only covered one and a half miles

Between my walking slowly on the uneven ground and Mack’s constant pulling on his leash, we didn’t move through the trails very quickly. But it sure was beautiful in the woods. We’ll keep working on Mack’s pulling. But we can’t wait for another nice weekend so we can explore more of Parker Woods and maybe next time we’ll make it to Buttercup Valley. And next time we’ll definitely take more photos too. But at least this walk managed to finally wear out Mack…
