FC Cincinnati x Second Place.

After Brink, we rode the bus from up in College Hill back down Hamilton Avenue into Northside and stopped into Second Place to watch our FC Cincinnati play away to Bethlehem Steel for the second time the last five matches. It doesn’t make any sense but whatever. FC Cincinnati away matches are more fun with a couple of Second Place’s bourbon slushes…

FC Cincinnati lost 1-0 to Bethlehem Steel. And after today’s match, an FC|C player has been sent off after receiving a straight red card in four of the last five matches. It’s been ridiculous and pretty unbelievable. But at least, the slushies were delicious.

Northside nubs.

We hung out in Northside this afternoon. First, we walked to Boswell’s Alley for a great lunch while we watched some of the Reds-Cubs game before heading down the street to Urban Artifact’s second-anniversary party…

We had a really great time. There were soooo many good beers. Afterwards, we walked over to Second Place so my parents could taste a little sample their bourbon and Arnold Palmer slushies. It was a fun afternoon in Northside before we Grabbed an Uber to over to Nippert Stadium to watch FC Cincinnati take on Louisville City FC. 🙂

It wasn’t Cincinnati’s day.

This evening we walked down to Second Place to watch the March Madness Elite Eight game between Xavier and Gonzaga. It didn’t end so well for Xavier. But just like Michigan, Xavier had a great run that far surpassed expectations. At halftime of the Xavier game, the second season of FC Cincinnati officially kicked off away to the Charleston Battery…

And that game didn’t end well for Cincinnati either. FC Cincy dropped the first game of their USL season 2-1 to the Battery. Hopefully, they’ll be able to grab their first points of the season next Saturday away to Pittsburgh. 🙂

Northside Sunday.

We were walking down Hamilton Avenue to brunch and saw the Dogfish Head x Crosley Cruiser Tour parked out in front of Shake It Records…

We went to Django Western Taco for brunch…

We shared a breakfast burrito and tater tot casserole…

Afterwards, we went to Second Place to watch Michigan’s second round basketball game against Louisville. It also turns out the Liverpool versus Manchester City match was on…

Second Place put out quite the spread for the match…

It was a pretty amazing atmosphere for both of the games. And… it was super exciting to watch Michigan advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Also, next Saturday the second season of FC Cincinnati USL soccer kicks off in Charleston, South Carolina. And Second Place is having a watch party…

It was another really fun Sunday in Northside. 🙂

Sunday Funday.

I was feeling a little bit better today. So we walked over to Northside Yacht Club for brunch. On our way to NSYC, we stumbled across another Little Free Library…

Yacht Club makes a pretty spectacular Bloody Mary…

They’re topped with a pulled pork slider, a chicken wing, strip of bacon and an olive. We shared a breakfast skillet called The Hawt Mess. It had a little bit of everything in it and it was really good. So… much… food. After brunch, we headed over to Second Place to watch the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. Along the way, we noticed this very happy little section of sidewalk on Spring Grove Avenue…

And Michigan won their first Big Ten Tournament Championship since 1998…

When we got home, we watched that crazy MLS snow bowl match between Atlanta and Minnesota where they actually stopped the match for snow removal…

Later, we took Oscar on a walk around the block…

And the mmoon was really big and so bright…

It was a really great Sunday. 🙂

Northside Sunday.

We walked down to Second Place to watch the Bengals game. And one the way, we noticed a couple of things. We noticed that there’s a new place scheduled to open up in January on Hamilton Avenue called The Hamilton…

Exciting. And a couple doors down is Fat City Billiards, also coming in January…

And then it was on to Second Place...

We ordered some of Second Place’s Sunday half-priced wings and cornbread…

Really good stuff! It was another great Sunday in Northside. 🙂

Second Place.

This evening we walked down Hamilton Avenue to check out a new sports bar called Second Place. It’s a sports bar filled with second place trophies, and it’s the second place from the owners of The Littlefield…

Second Place has a pretty nice draft beer list but what caught our attention were those bourbon and featured slushes…

Second Place has a few special food items provided by The Littlefield…

I believe you can also bring in carry-out from The Littlefield and eat it at Second Place. But back to those bourbon slushes…

The slushes are incredible! They also have special hand-aged bourbon in oak barrels…

We were told this concoction had been aged for forty days. Second Place also has a pool table and darts…

And a really great back patio too…

We hung out, ate a couple baskets of free popcorn and watched the Pat’s win…

We didn’t realize that right next to Second Place’s patio was the iconic Northside mural…

Great place. I could see watching many a sporting event at Second Place in the future. Because those bourbon slushes are pretty dang amazing. 🙂

Sunday Funday.

With the time change and the early morning North London Derby, we were up and moving surprisingly early this morning. After walking Oscar, we walked down Hamilton Avenue to The Littlefield for brunch…

Genifer had their Greek Omelet…

And I had the brunch special of the day, lamb and duck sausage with sweet potato biscuits, roasted mushrooms and over-easy egg…

It was such a delicious brunch. One of the best we’ve had in a minute. Afterwards, we checked on the progress of The Littlefield’s new bar next door called Second Place…

It looked like they were making progress. I can’t wait to check it out when it finally opens. It also looked like there’s something new going into to the old Tacocracy space on Hamilton Avenue but it was kinda hard to tell what they were doing…
