Northside Rock n’ Roll Carnival.

This evening we walked down Hamilton Avenue to Jacob Hoffner Park in Northside to check out the Northside Rock n’ Roll Carnival in a celebration of all things 45223…

We got a couple of tokens for beer…

Because they had Urban Artifact’s Keypunch on tap!

The first Keypunch of the summer…

Northside’s NYPD and Bridges were serving food…

And so were Dojo Gelato and Red Sesame…

We got some delicious Red Sesame chicken tacos…

They had some pretty neat Northside Rock n’ Roll Carnival t-shirts…

And the proceeds from the t-shirts went to Happen and Bread Winner

Django Western Taco was also serving food as well…

We had to get a jerk chicken torta with pineapple and elote corn on the cob…

There was a large collection of really diverse and interesting bands all with very unique and distinctly different sounds…

What an incredibly fun celebration of the Northside community. 😀❤️🇺🇸

Sunday Funday.

We watched the Mexico versus Portugal Confederations Cup match this morning. And then we headed down to Second Place to watch Chile take on Cameron. On our way to Second Place, we noticed a sign on the door of our beloved Django Western Taco

Django is moving in next to Tickle Pickle on Hamilton Avenue, and that’s just a hop, skip and a jump from us. Chef Josh broke the news to us a few weeks ago when we were in for Sunday Brunch that they were moving up Hamilton. It’s so cool to have one of our most favorite restaurants move even closer to our house…

Now if we could just get Second Place to move closer as well. Their featured slush today was a cayenne pina colada, which mixed surprisingly well with the bourbon slush…

It tasted like being on vacation. And made for a pretty fun Sunday. 😀🏖️🌮

UPDATE: Django’s old space at the corner of Hamilton and Ble Rock is now empty…

Soccer Saturday.

There were a bunch of great soccer matches slated for later today. But first things first, this morning we had to do some yard work. We trimmed the bushes, pulled some weeds and mowed the grass in our little front yard…

We worked on our backyard a bit too. Before last night, before mowing today, and finally the beautiful after shot…

And we wrapped up just in time to watch the Champions League final. The result was kind of disappointing with Real Madrid beating Juventus 4-1. I thought it would have been a much more competitive match. But the lone Juventus goal was one for the ages. But 4-1 is still a little bit sad trombone.

Afterward, we walked down to Second Place to watch our FC Cincinnati play away to Rochester Rhinos

FC Cincy rested most of their starters, opting to go with mainly a second squad and as a result had a really hard time generating any sort of real offense and lost 1-0. The loss snaps FC|C’s four-match winning streak. They play another three home matches in the next seven days starting this Saturday when they welcome the Charlotte Indepence to Nippert Stadium. That match is then followed by the big #MLS2Cincy US Open Cup Hell Is Real Ohio derby match against Columbus Crew on Wednesday and then another home USL match this time against the first-placed Charleston Battery two weeks from today.

Soon after the FC Cincinnati match, the USMNT played a friendly against Venzelua. We made it home just after the kick-off. And that match ended 1-1. But the USMNT pride jerseys were pretty awesome. I might just have to look into ordering one of those for myself. They were some of the sharpest uniforms the USMNT has worn in quite a while. In fact, they’re my US favorite jerseys dating back to the old “sash” jerseys from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. And I’m probably well overdue for a new USMNT jersey. ⚽️🏳️‍🌈

And even though not one team I was cheering for managed to win today, it was still a great afternoon and evening of soccer. 😀 ⚽️ ❤️

Northside Sunday.

We went to Django Western Taco for a late brunch today. We shared the buttermilk biscuit with redeye chorizo gravy and fried eye, Chef Josh’s famous tater tot casserole and a side of bacon topped with ancho chile honey…

And it was delicious. As always. Also, Chef Josh said that Django Western Taco has some really big news coming very soon so we can’t wait for his big announcement!  After we stuffed our faces at Django, we walked over to Urban Artifact for a beer or two…

We had the very last pint of the Palmistry and a couple of Finn’s…

We love Northside so much. 😀 ❤️

FC Cincinnati x Second Place.

After Brink, we rode the bus from up in College Hill back down Hamilton Avenue into Northside and stopped into Second Place to watch our FC Cincinnati play away to Bethlehem Steel for the second time the last five matches. It doesn’t make any sense but whatever. FC Cincinnati away matches are more fun with a couple of Second Place’s bourbon slushes…

FC Cincinnati lost 1-0 to Bethlehem Steel. And after today’s match, an FC|C player has been sent off after receiving a straight red card in four of the last five matches. It’s been ridiculous and pretty unbelievable. But at least, the slushies were delicious. :/

Brink Brewing Co.

This afternoon we rode the 17 bus up Hamilton Avenue into College Hill to check out the new Brink Brewing Company…

We got a flight and headed outside to Brink’s awesome back patio…

We tried their Debbie Jean Blonde Ale, Buona Sarah Saison, Even Flow Brink Berry Wheat, Moozie Milk Stout, Peach Cobbler Moozie Milk Stout and not pictured was the award-winning Brink English Brown Ale…

I really like Brink’s logo…

The Peach Cobbler Moozie Milk Stout was outstanding…

Piggin-N-Grinnin BBQ was serving up BBQ out on Brink’s patio as well…

I got the brisket sammich, and we shared some mac and cheese and Grippos BBQ chips…

And Genifer got a pulled pork sammich…

It was some really delicious BBQ! And some delicious beers. We really enjoyed the Even Flow Brink Berry Wheat…

GIANT SCRABBLE!

It was a bunch of fun hanging out at Brink. And it was so easy just to hop on the bus and we were there in no time. We’ll definitely be back very soon! 🙂

Northside nubs.

We hung out in Northside this afternoon. First, we walked to Boswell’s Alley for a great lunch while we watched some of the Reds-Cubs game before heading down the street to Urban Artifact’s second-anniversary party

We had a really great time. There were soooo many good beers. Afterwards, we walked over to Second Place so my parents could taste a little sample their bourbon and Arnold Palmer slushies. It was a fun afternoon in Northside before we Grabbed an Uber to over to Nippert Stadium to watch FC Cincinnati take on Louisville City FC. 🙂

Urban Artifact’s Squeezebox.

I met Genifer at Northside’s Hoffner Park this evening so we could walk over to Urban Artifact to try their latest creation, Squeezebox Strawberry Sour Bomb

We hadn’t been to Urban Artifact in a minute so we got a flight to try some of the new stuff they had on tap today…

From left to right, we tried Squeezebox Strawberry Sour Bomb, Letterbox Dark Tropical Ale, Peanut Butter Sliderule Chocolate Raspberry Gose and Skep Honey Nut Muffin Ale. Here is everything Urban Artifact had on tap this evening…

All of them were really amazing but Squeezebox was the clear standout. It was like sucking on one of those little strawberry hard candies

Urban Artifact also created four Squeezebox variants in 500ml bomber bottles…

There’s a Chocolate Strawberry Squeezebox, Spicy Margarita Squeezebox, Strawberry Margarita Squeezebox and Lemon Basil Sorbet Squeezebox. Walking home, the door to their production facility was open and we could see all the stacks and stacks of cans…

It was a very pretty evening walking home…

And now our refrigerator has some new friends…

But not for too long. We sat out on our back patio when we got home and shared the lemon basil sorbet Squeezebox. And it was just outstanding! Sooo good. I hope our whole #SPRINGinCINCY can taste like Strawberry Squeezebox…

Have we ever mentioned we love living in Northside? 🙂

An afternoon in The Banks.

Back when we were in the Dominican Republic, we had tickets to a Cyclones hockey game that we obviously couldn’t use. We swapped those tickets for tonight’s Cyclones regular season home finale. We decided to make an afternoon of it and rode our beloved 17 bus into downtown to have a little fun before the hockey game…

We walked down to The Banks to check out some of the new places that have opened…

We went to check out latest new downtown burger joint called Burgerfi

We streamed the FC Cincinnati match away to Pittsburgh while we were waiting for our order to be ready. We each ordered a Burgerfi Cheeseburger and shared a Cry+Fry…

Look at the size of those gorgeous onion rings…

They’re practically the same size as the burgers…

Those are some pretty awesome burgers!

Burgerfi really kinda reminded me a lot of In-N-Out Burger with their really, REALLY awesome burgers. I can see taking many walks down to The Banks for a burger for lunch during the work week. Really great stuff! After we were all done with our burgers, we went two doors down to check out the latest bar from 4EG called The Stretch

The Stretch has cocktails on tap…

But they had Urban Artifact‘s Sliderule on tap. So we had a couple while we watched the first half of the South Carolina-Gonzaga game. And we streamed the second half of the FC Cincy match. They notched their first win of the season 1-0 over Pittsburgh.  Hopefully, the Reds can get their first win in a couple days as well…

These are a couple of really fun new places in The Banks. We wished we could have paid a visit to the new Pies & Pints in The Banks as well. Next time. It was a really fun pregame afternoon that we look forward to repeating next hockey season. 🙂

It wasn’t Cincinnati’s day.

This evening we walked down to Second Place to watch the March Madness Elite Eight game between Xavier and Gonzaga. It didn’t end so well for Xavier. But just like Michigan, Xavier had a great run that far surpassed expectations. At halftime of the Xavier game, the second season of FC Cincinnati officially kicked off away to the Charleston Battery…

And that game didn’t end well for Cincinnati either. FC Cincy dropped the first game of their USL season 2-1 to the Battery. Hopefully, they’ll be able to grab their first points of the season next Saturday away to Pittsburgh. 🙂
