Hello August.

Good morning from Northside…

Early this afternoon we ordered Domino’s for lunch…

I like Domino’s. I think they make a good, solid pizza pie. And Genifer loves their cheesy bread.

we sat out on our back patio and watch some of the Olympics.Track and field was on tonight…

And then we switched over to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final: Mexico versus the United States…

The United States beat Mexico 1-0 to lift their seventh Gold Cup. And they beat Mexico for the second time in less than three months!

What a great Sunday. 😀🌄🍕📺⚽️🏆❤️

USMNT v. Venezuela.

This afternoon our United States Men’s National Team was playing host to Venezuela at Nippert Stadium as a warm-up to the upcoming Gold Cup…

We should have known what was in store for us when the USMNT starting lineup was announced. No Christian Pulisic. No Michael Bradley. We didn’t even recognize half of the names in the starting eleven. But it’s the USMNT, right? In Cincinnati. At Nippert…

And here was the best part. The team’s walkout and Sam the Bald Eagle and our National Anthem with the National Team in Cincinnati…

The USMNT had a couple of good chances at the beginning of the match…

Then it pretty much went downhill from there really fast…

The USMNT was down 3-0 after just 36 minutes…

And that’s how the match would end 3-0 to Venezuela

If you really wanted to thank your fans, you wouldn’t play a complete B team that mailed in their performance.

It’s stupid hard not to be ridiculously disappointed with both this team selection, the performance and the outcome of this match. I was really looking forward to seeing the USMNT in person. There were a lot of people who paid a lot of money to watch this team for the first time at Nippert Stadium and this happens. Not us, we just had general admission tickets. But now we’ve seen the National Team and I don’t know that we’ll ever need to see them again.

After the match, we went to Mac’s for a pizza…

And we saw this…

And it’s funny because it’s true. What a disappointing afternoon. At least the pizza was really good. 😀🇺🇸⚽️🇻🇪❤️

A busy Tuesday.

Good morning from Northside. I had a big day planned on my last day before I started my new job tomorrow…

This morning we took Oscar to get his haircut before our epic road trip next week…

After dropping off Oscar, I dropped off Genifer at work before heading downtown to drop off my key fob at Deskey. I wasn’t going to be needing that anymore…

I dropped off my fob. Ran over to Rookwood Commons to go to Old Navy. I wanted a new navy polo shirt. I ended up finding one and a bunch of other stuff for our road trip. From there, I went to the grocery store to get dog food and cat litter and other odds and ends since I won’t be able just to walk around the corner to CVS or the hardware store anymore. On my way home, I picked up a couple of McDonald’s Filet O’Fish for lunch. And while I was eating my fish, I ordered us two general admission tickets for the upcoming USMNT match versus Venezuela at Nippert Stadium…

I went to go pick-up Oscar from the groomers but he wasn’t quite ready yet. I had about a half hour to kill so I went to check out Maverick’s Comics & Cards in Finneytown…

And then it was time to pick up Oscar…

He looks so handsome. At Maverick’s, I found a bunch of Usagi Yojimbo back issues…

Later, I went to pickup Genifer from work, and on the way home, we stopped for a beer and a fried bologna sammich with some loaded cheese fries…

Just today, Listermann released a collaboration Bottle Logic Brewing called Scoring Discrepancies. It was a with Imperial Stout with peanut butter and raspberry…

It was a lot of running around. But I really feel like I got a lot accomplished today. 😀❤️

One year ago today.

On October 10, 2017, USMNT lost 2-1 away to Trinidad & Tobago and as a result, they failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986…

Today on the one year anniversary of the darkest day in U.S. Soccer history, the US Soccer Federation released this statement…

“Today we look forward. With the march towards 2022 underway and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America as our guidepost, the U.S. Men’s National Team has embarked on a new journey. The hallmarks of the culture remain, with perseverance, grit and dogged determination fueled by the pride to represent the United States and each and every one of you. We take nothing for granted. The path ahead will be paved with successes and informed by setbacks. We will build strength through commitment and character, accepting challenges and rising every time we fall. We will be aggressive and play without fear, for history demonstrates that fortune favors the bold.

“Like any grand project, ours is a work in progress. We cannot do it alone. Pioneering a new path forward takes the will of a generation full of optimism and hope, bound by the belief that there is nothing we cannot achieve if we are united in the cause. This is the American spirit, from which is born the American dream. It is time to take our destiny in our own hands and turn that dream into a reality. And do it together. The future is US.”

Blah. Blah. Blah. The National Team has a whole bunch of bright talented youngsters that are starting to emerge from the ranks. But they still haven’t even hired a new coach for the National Team. I hope things start to get better soon for our team, and they can get thing s back to where they were and then start figuring out how to take things to the next level. But they sure are taking their sweet time. 😀🇺🇸⚽️❤️

It’s just embarrassing.

We went to Second Place to watch the USMNT take on Trinidad & Tobago in the final qualifying match for next summer’s World Cup in Russia…

Our USMNT needed a win against a Trinidad & Tobago squad that had only won one match in qualifying. They had one win, eight losses, and no draws. Handing T&T one more loss would guarantee the USA a spot in Russia but a tie would more than likely put them into the World Cup finals as well. And the USMNT played really well against in their 4-0 rout of Panama on Friday

And the USMNT lost 2-1. They finished fifth behind Mexico and Costa Rica and Panama and Honduras. Fifth out six teams in the hexagonal table. Next summer’s World Cup finals will be the first without American involvement since 1986. Disappointing doesn’t really cover it. It’s just really dang embarrassing. But I haven’t been this disappointed and embarrassed in the United States since Trump was put in the White House.

But hey, at least it was a pretty evening before the match…

What the heck is happening to our once-great country? 😀🇺🇸⚽️😬😥🚫🏆😭

One step closer.

This evening we just stayed in and watched the USMNT take another huge step towards qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a 4-0 rout over Panama

If the USMNT can beat Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday, they’ll be packing their bags for Russia next summer! 😀⚽️🇺🇸❤️

USMNT x NYPD.

This evening we ordered some delicious NYPD pizza and then watched the USMNT lose 2-0 to Costa Rica in World Cup qualifying…

The match was very disappointing. But the pizza was really, really good. 😐⚽️🍕❤️

Super Sports Saturday.

There were a bunch of really good sports on this evening. We sat out on our back patio and watched the Reds lose to the Nats, the United States Men’s National Team thump Nicaragua 3-0 in their final group stage match of the Gold Cup and… we watched our FC Cincinnati down geographic rival Louisville City FC 3-2… in Louisville…

It was a bunch of sports. Maybe too much for some of us…

Thank goodness for having a bunch of devices. 😀⚾️⚽️⚽️❤️

Soccer Saturday.

There were a bunch of great soccer matches slated for later today. But first things first, this morning we had to do some yard work. We trimmed the bushes, pulled some weeds and mowed the grass in our little front yard…

We worked on our backyard a bit too. Before last night, before mowing today, and finally the beautiful after shot…

And we wrapped up just in time to watch the Champions League final. The result was kind of disappointing with Real Madrid beating Juventus 4-1. I thought it would have been a much more competitive match. But the lone Juventus goal was one for the ages. But 4-1 is still a little bit sad trombone.

Afterward, we walked down to Second Place to watch our FC Cincinnati play away to Rochester Rhinos

FC Cincy rested most of their starters, opting to go with mainly a second squad and as a result had a really hard time generating any sort of real offense and lost 1-0. The loss snaps FC|C’s four-match winning streak. They play another three home matches in the next seven days starting this Saturday when they welcome the Charlotte Indepence to Nippert Stadium. That match is then followed by the big #MLS2Cincy US Open Cup Hell Is Real Ohio derby match against Columbus Crew on Wednesday and then another home USL match this time against the first-placed Charleston Battery two weeks from today.

Soon after the FC Cincinnati match, the USMNT played a friendly against Venzelua. We made it home just after the kick-off. And that match ended 1-1. But the USMNT pride jerseys were pretty awesome. I might just have to look into ordering one of those for myself. They were some of the sharpest uniforms the USMNT has worn in quite a while. In fact, they’re my US favorite jerseys dating back to the old “sash” jerseys from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. And I’m probably well overdue for a new USMNT jersey. ⚽️🏳️‍🌈

And even though not one team I was cheering for managed to win today, it was still a great afternoon and evening of soccer. 😀 ⚽️ ❤️

USA! USA! USA!

Great win for the USMNT tonight versus Equador in the Copa America!
USA! USA! USA! 😀
