A Saturday afternoon in OtR.

This afternoon we caught an Uber down into Over-the-Rhine. Our friend Chris just had a birthday and his wife, Tayler was throwing him a bar-hopping surprise party that started at Rhinegeist

Decisions, decisions…

We got down to Rehinegeist a little bit early so we could finally check out their rooftop…

The Rhinegeist rooftop patio…

It’s super nice up there. But we went back downstairs to get some food. Rhinegiest’s taproom is on something like the third or fourth floor of the building. On the first floor is Sartre, the hottest restaurant & bar according to Zagat. Two things on a side note, the hottest restaurant and bar just sounds really uncomfortable and sweaty. And Zagat also said Steak ‘n Shake had the #1 rated milkshake. Steak ‘n Shake. So I think you should really take their recommendations with a grain of salt. But I digress, Sartre. In addition to having a restaurant and bar on the first floor, Sartre also has a kiosk in Rhinegeist’s taproom that I should have taken a photo of but didn’t. They take your order at the kiosk and Sartre sends your food up to the taproom in oversized banking tubes, and they call it tube food. That’s awesome! And I’m so mad that I didn’t take any photos of the kiosk or the tubes. But Genifer ordered a pretzel and I got a burger. And here it is…

And that was one really terrific burger…

So, sooo good. Rhinegeist really fills up on a Saturday afternoon…

On May 15th, National Dinosaur Day was Jurassic Geist at the Rhinegiest Taproom…

According to a tweet I saw in celebration of World Dinosaur Day, Cincy Museum Center teamed with Rhinegeist to display their 50-foot Galeamopus dinosaur in public for the first time! This YouTube video shows the process of putting together a 150-million-year-old dinosaur! We’ll definitely have to get back down to Rhinegeist to see the dinosaur and get some photos of tube food…

From Rhinegeist, we walked over to Taft’s Ale House

Then we swung through Sundry and Vice before heading to Mecca OtR

Chunkers!

From there, we made our way to 16-bit

And they had Slush Puppie drinks…

And then we stopped into Longfellow

And then it was onto Rhinehaus to watch the end of FC Cincinnati’s 4-1 loss away to Charlotte Independence. Everyone headed to 4EG’s newest bar, Rosedale. Rosedale was stupid packed. And somewhere between point A and point B, we got separated from our group. We tried to track them down but to no avail. So we hopped in an Uber and headed back to Northside where we stopped at Higher Gravity for a nightcap. It was a really fun afternoon and evening of bar hopping in Over-the-Rhine. 😀🍺🍻🥃🍸🍹❤️

Northside nubs.

I was planning on taking a half day this morning when Cincinnati Bell was installing our new Fioptics. But it took so long to get us up and running that I decided just to take the whole day off. Eventually, we decided to walk down to Melt to have a late lunch…

Genifer had a half Cobb Salad with chips and hummus and buffalo mac&cheese…

I had the Hoffner with classic mac&cheese…

Their sammiches are so outstanding, as is their mac&cheese. After we were done eating, we celebrated no longer having cable by sharing a Morning Glory cocktail…

And after we were done with lunch, we stopped into Higher Gravity for a flight…

It was a great way to celebrate no longer having cable and spend my first vacation day of the year. 😀🥪🍺🥃❤️

Cheers!

Tonight, we enjoyed our growler of Urban Artifact’s Jalapeno Margarita Keypunch from Higher Gravity in glasses from Braxton on our back patio

And it was really good. That’s all. 😀🍺❤️

Cinco de Derby.

We dodged the raindrops and walked down to Second Place for their Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby pregame

They were having special one-day-only Margarita and Mint Julep slushies

Those Mint Julep slushes were out of this world! We hung out and had some slushes and watched some the ridiculously extensive NBC pre-Derby coverage. About an hour or so before the Derby was ready to actually start, we caught an Uber to Mac’s Pizza Pub on campus. We watched Justify win the Derby from Mac’s. What a fun way to pre-game to the FC Cincinnati match! 😀🥃🐴❤️

Rare keg evening at HG.

Every Friday at Higher Gravity, they have been tapping rare and unusual kegs like the Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout back on Genifer’s birthday. Tonight, they tapped a special keg of a Spicy Margarita Keypunch from Urban Artifact made especially for Higher Gravity

It was a really darn good beer. It wasn’t as good or as spicy as either the Jalapeno Mint Keypunch we took with us up to South Haven a couple of years ago or the Habanero Keypunch we tried when we got back from Michigan. But this was still a darn good beer. And we made Higher Gravity’s Instagram again

While we were at HG, it got really dark and windy and then stormed for a little bit but then the storm blew over and the sunset was pretty spectacular…

It was another really fun Friday night at Higher Gravity. 😀🍺🍻❤️

The Hamilton Hightail Run.

This morning Genifer ran in The Hamilton Hightail Run. Hosted by Higher Gravity and JackRabbit, The Hamilton Hightail Run was a bar and brewery run billed as a fun and social prep event for the Flying Pig Marathon…

The race started at Higher Gravity with a 2.8-mile run up the Hamilton Avenue hill to Brink Brewing in College Hill. From there the race came back down Hamilton Avenue to Urban Artifact and then ended with a 0.2-mile sprint down Blue Rock Street back to Higher Gravity…

And a little over two hours later, I spotted Genifer about to cross Hamilton Avenue back to Higher Gravity. And I managed to get a video of her finishing the run

She completed the run in just over 2 hours and 20 minutes…

And then we got to have a couple of beers together. She said it was a pretty good run. The worst part about it was the leg up to Brink because it was almost entirely uphill. I chose to stay and wait for her at Higher Gravity. In hindsight, I should have just caught the 17 bus up Hamilton to meet her at Brink. And then rode the 17 back down Hamilton and walked over to Higher Gravity. If they do the run again next year, that’s exactly what I’ll do. 😀🏃‍♀️🍻❤️

Celebrating Genifer’s birthday.

I met Genifer at Higher Gravity again this evening so we could celebrate her birthday. Our friends Cory and Amy met up with us with their sleepy kiddos…

Higher Gravity was doing a fun little tasting tonight. They were having a side by side tasting of Founder’s KBS and CBS. Chef Josh from Django Western Taco was at Higher Gravity pairing the beers with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch French Toast Tacos with Maple Pork Belly as well as Django guac and salsa. The tacos were pretty dang awesome and so were the beers. Both were gone before I even thought about taking a photo. Speaking of awesome, we also all shared a huge Chameleon Pizza

Eventually, word got out that it was Genifer’s birthday, and the guys at Higher Gravity gave her a bottle of Southern Tier’s Monstrosus for her special day…

That was super nice of them…

It was another really fun evening! But we always have a really good time at Higher Gravity. 😀🌮🍕🍻🍾❤️

Higher Gravity: Meet the Brewery.

Today was gorgeous. The sun was out and the temperature was in the mid-70s. Higher Gravity had their garage door open for the first time this year. So we decided to stop in for their Thursday night Meet the Brewery featuring three beers from Ballast Point…

They had Ballast Point’s Aloha Sculpin IPA with notes of mango, pineapple and guava, Sour Wench Blackberry Ale and Willet Sea Monster Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout. We also had a taster of Founder’s Oatmeal Stout on nitro…

We made Higher Gravity’s Instagram stories…

It was such a pretty evening…

The Meet the Brewery events at Higher Gravity are always tasty and fun. 😀🍺🍻❤

Celebrating big wins.

We celebrated a big win this afternoon at Deskey…

Taken with Instagram. 😀🍾❤️

A Second Place celebration.

This evening we stopped at Second Place to catch the end of happy hour to celebrate my being done with my physical therapy…

It’s been a little while since we were last at Second Place. It was just too far for us to walk in the cold for the most of the winter…

Second Place’s happy hour includes $1 off slushes…

Second Place has a new menu

And happy hour included half-price burgers as well!

The burgers were really delicious and the fries were outstanding!

It was great to get back to Second Place. It had been way too long since our last bourbon slushies. And I see many more of their terrific burgers in our future as the weather starts getting warmer and warmer. 😀🥃🍔🍟❤️
