Huit Craft BBQ.

All that talk about Huit yesterday got me thinking that it’s been a minute since I’ve eaten there. So today, I walked up to Court Street to get lunch from Huit Craft BBQ

I got curry empanadas, which were delicious…

And I got Huit’s sweet and sour chicken. I’ve been on a real Asian food kick…

What a very tasty lunch. ๐Ÿ™‚

neuf.

I was walking to get lunch today and I when noticed some new signs in the window of what used to be Dynasty Chinese Restaurant on Main Street. It looks like Huitย up on Court Street is opening a sister restaurant called neuf asian eateryย …

It’s always nice when a new restaurant opens up right around the corner from work. I can’t wait to give it a try once it opens. And if it’s anything like Huit, you just know it’s going to be great. ๐Ÿ™‚

Pause for paws.

Oscar got his hair cut today at Wags-N-Whiskers in Newport…

Now he looks all so handsome again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good evening.

Good evening from Urban Artifact in Northside…

And later, there was just a little sliver of moon peeking out from behind the trees in our backyard. I love sitting in our backyard. It’s one of my favorite places in the world…

Northside Farmers Market.

As promised, here’s a photo of the amazing pecan rolls from Shadeau Breads at the weekly Northside Farmers Marketย at Hoffner Park…

They are so delicious. I’ve been looking froward to them all week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy National Taco Day!

Today was National Taco Day, and it fell on Taco Tuesday. So this evening, Genifer and I walked down to Django Western Taco to celebrate!

We started with some guacamole Django style…

Genifer got a carnitas taco…

And I had two of Django’s amazing fried chicken tacos…

I couldn’t imagine a more delicious way to celebrate National Taco Day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Downtown details.

I took a few photos running some errands around downtown this afternoon…

FC Cincinnati USL Playoff Edition.

This afternoon was FC Cincinnati’s first USL playoff game

FC|C was the third seed in the USL Eastern Conference. They were taking on the six seeded Charleston Battery. We were hoping for the best but apprehensive because during the regular season FC|C lost away to the Battery 1-0 and drew at Nippert 1-1

Before the match, I was interviewed by Fox19 news. We DVR’d the news and I made the cut. I’ll try to get a video posted of my little interview soon…

Here we go…

At the half, it was all knotted at 1-1 after FC|C’sย Eric Stevenson launched a thirty yard rocket into the the upper right corner of the Charleston net in the 19th minute. The wunderย strike earned Stevenson the 3ย spot on ESPNโ€™s SportsCenter Top 10 plays.

Charlotte tied the game on a very soft goal in the 40th minute. At halftime, we moved down closer to the goal FC|C would be attacking…

We were waiting for the second FC|C goal that never materialized. Instead, it was Charleston who took the lead 2-1 in the 65th minute…

And in typical FC Cincinnati fashion, they set an new attendance record for a USL post season match. 30,187 showed up to see FC|C’s first posteseason match…

And that’sย the way the match would end 2-1 to the Battery

It was an incredible inaugural season that ended much too abruptly. A disappointing way for the season to end but FC Cincinnati’s first season definitely exceeded all expectations. Iย would have never guessed when it was first announced that Cincinnati was getting a USL soccer team that they would finish third in the Eastern Conference, make the playoffs as the three seed and set the USL single game attendance record not once, twice but three times, broke the USL single season attendance record and the single game attendance for a soccer game in the state of Ohio during their friendly against Crystal Palace. They averaged over 17,000 people per home game. And Ugo Okoliย won theย USLโ€™s Golden Boot award. It was simply just an amazing first season. We made to every matchย FC|C played in Cincinnati.ย We’ve already renewed our season tickets, and we can’t wait for the second season of FC Cincinnati soccer because this season was a blast! And I have the distinct feeling it’s only going to keep getting better and better. ๐Ÿ™‚

Reds baseball game #15.

The last weekend of the Reds baseball season. We wanted to get in one more ballgame to make it 15 trips to Great American Ball Park for us this season. We were hanging out at Washington Park for the Pokopolis Pig & Whiskey festival before the game…

Then we walked across Race Street so Genifer could ride the streetcar CB Connector for the first time…

Here it comes…

Apparently, everyone downtown had the exact same idea as us. The Connector was stupid packed…

But we eventually made it to The Banks. We’re pretty sure we could have walked there quicker.

The Reds were playing the Cubs for this final series of the regular season. It was cool to get to see the Cubbies before they embark on their postseason run…

John Lester was on the hill for the Cubs…

Joey Votto’s had an extraordinary second half of the season

It’s ridiculous how good he’s been this year after a slow start. Bases were full of Reds…

Eugenio Suarez went yard

Plenty of seats were still available…

So not surprisingly, we were able to find that Chick-fil-a cow…

And Rosie Red…

Last ball park snacks of the season…

Now the bases were chuck full of Cubbies…

BARGE!

The Cubs brought in Aroldis Chapman to pitch the eighth inning…

With two outs in the eighth, it was Aroldis Chapman versus Joey Votto…

Raisel Iglesias came in to try to shut the door on the Cubs…

And this one belongs to the Reds!

It was a long, tough season for the Reds. But the second half showed a lot of promise and potential for what could be next season. I just know now that for the next couple of weeks I’ll look at the clock see that it’s around 7pm, go to turn on the Reds game and have to remind myself that the season’s over. There isn’t any more Reds baseball until next Spring. And for me, that’s always the hardest part. It’s not the fact that they didn’t do well this year. It’s the fact that their season is over, and I have to wait all winter until I can get to watch my Reds play baseball again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Porkopolis Pig & Whiskey Festival.

It was hard to believe that today was already the first day of October…

We rode the 17 bus downtown to the Porkopolis Pig & Whiskey Festival. Last year, it took place on Horseshoe Casino’s event lawn, and was really a lot of fun. This year’s 2nd annual Pig & Whiskey Festival took place at Washington Park. And I have to say when we walked up, we were a little underwhelmed…

The sizeable event lawn at Washington Park kind of swallowed the event whole…

But we had some time to kill before the start of the Reds game, so we got some tickets and soldiered on for some BBQ and whiskey…

First, we tried whiskey infused with sake. A bold new liquor experience bringing the best of East meets West from Karate Cowboy

They were offering a couple of different cocktails. A pineapple mule…

And a honey cran apple cider…

So we tried one of each. Both were absolutley delightful…

We also tried a root beer flavored bourbon from Rebel Yell

For food, we started with The Pockey from Huit…

Asian style ground pork with Chihuahua Cheese rolled in a flour torilla, deep fried and sauced with Huit’s house made sweet sambai…

Delicious and surprisingly filling. And we shared some really incredible St. Louis style ribs from Just Q’in…

30053754565_2fda02c7eb_b

Amazing ribs. The meat fell right off the bone. I was also going to get some burnt ends from Velvet Smoke BBQ but we couldn’t find the room to put them away…

So we got a Jack Tennessee Fire and Canadian Dry instead, which is a delicious cocktail…

And the Met Life Blimp was hovering over Washington Park the whole time…

Pig & Whiskey was definitely more fun last year. But we got to sample some alcohols we wouldn’t have normally got to try. We definitely want to add both Karate Cowboy flavors, and the Rebel Yell root beer bourbon to our home bar reserves. And whenever you get to hang out at Washington Park and gaze at Music Hall, it’s never a bad afternoon…๐Ÿ™‚
