FC Cincinnati’s first MLS home match.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY! Today was another holiday in Cincinnati. It was our beloved FC Cincinnati’s very first MLS match at home in the friendly confines of historic Nippert Stadium. And they were playing host to MLS powerhouse, Portland Timbers…

Before the match, we stopped at Mac’s Pizza Pub for a green St. Patty’s Day beer…

And then it was finally time to head over to Nippert…

They were giving away FC Cincinnati inaugural MLS season jersey rally towels…

We got to see Tim, our very favorite beer vendor again…

I was testing out my 60mm Moment lens to take photos at the match…

It worked pretty well!

GOAL! FC CINCINNATI!

At halftime, it was 1-0 FC Cincinnati!

FC|C scored two goals in 2 minutes to make the score 3-0!

And the match would end 3-0 to FC Cincinnati! What an incredible home debut in front of 32,250 at a sold-out Nippert Stadium!

This match is going to go down in Cincinnati sports history as one of those “I was there” moments. And thankfully, we were there! 😀⚽️❤️

FC Cincinnati’s first MLS match.

This evening was FC Cincinnati’s very first match in MLS. They were playing away at Seattle Sounders on FS1. Definitely not the easiest introduction to their new league…

I was so excited and so nervous for this match all day. And it was finally here…

And just 13 minutes into the match, FC Cincinnati had their first goal and first lead in MLS! Just 13 minutes! Leonardo Bertone made history for FC|C with a wonder strike from outside of the box

The goal was the third-fastest ever scored by an MLS expansion club. It was definitely a moment to remember. But that was pretty much the only the highlight of the match for FC|C. It all kind of went south from there. FC Cincinnati lost their first match 4-1 to Seattle Sounders.

Welcome to MLS. 😀⚽️❤️

Seen and noted.

Our FC Cincinnati was playing in a four-team preseason tournament in Charleston. All the matches were available to stream through the Charleston Battery’s website, which was less than ideal. This afternoon FC|C played its final match of the Carolina Challenge Cup against Columbus Crew. And someone could have used a hand in their spelling of Clombus Columbus…

No matter how you spell it, Crew thumped Cincinnati 3-0. 🤪⚽️❤️

Champions AGAIN!

The Patroits won their sixth Superb Owl of the Tom Brady era. There were some great posts on social media. These are some of my favorites…

All of these are from the Patriots Instagram except for the last one which is from the Instagram of Michigan Football. GO PATS! GO BLUE! 😀🏈🏆❤️

Oh, and this one was from my Instagram

Superb Owl Party at HG.

We went to Higher Gravity for tonight’s big Sports Bowl…

They hosted a Superb Owl Sports Bowl Potluck Party and there was all sorts of food…

It was the most uneventful Sports Bowl in the history of Sports Bowls, We ended up staying for the entire game because nothing happening and we were afraid if we left we’d miss the big play. Thankfully there was finally some action in fourth quarter, and the Patriots pulled off the win. I think I was  person at HG who was happy the Patriots won. But Higher Gravity made a very boring game pretty fun. 😀🏈🏆❤️

The most epic Saturday.

This afternoon we bus the Cincinnati Metro 17 bus downtown to celebrate my birthday. First stop on our adventure was one of most favorite bars from when we used to live downtown, Igby’s

From Igby’s, we walked down to The Banks

We were planning to eat at Moerlein Lager House

But even after being open all this time, it was still packed on a Saturday night…

So instead, we walked back up to the new Galla Park where the old Crave used to be…

I’ve been on a White Russian kick since we went to Northside Distilling

As is our new custom, we shared Galla Park’s giant soft pretzel…

It was pretty terrific. Their mustard was outstanding. And we also shared Galla Park’s Cuban sammich…

It was very good as well. It’s good to see that something new is now in the space the Crave used to occupy. We have a lot of fun memories in that space. From Galla Park, we headed down the block to US Bank Arena

Ealier, we bought tickets to tonight’s Cyclones hockey game against Tulsa Oilers…

In the new ECHL app, you can purchase Cyclones tickets through your phone…

And that means, we don’t have to wait in line to buy Cyclones tickets anymore…

It was a pretty full house tonight at US Bank Arena…

Cheers! It’s good to be back ‘Clones!

The Cyclones were already up 2-0 by the time we were in our seats…

And it was pink the rink night tonight…

At the end of the second period, it was 6-1…

And then there was chuck-a-puck…

CYCLONES WIN!

The Cyclones thumped the Oilers 7-1! Seven Cyclones goals and four fights makes for one heck of a hockey game. It was great to finally be back at US Bank Arena watching our Cyclones play hockey again. And soon we’ll be back at GABP too!

From US Bank Arena, we walked over to catch the Streetcar Cincinnati Connector

We rode it up into Over-the-Rhine and got off at Twelfth and Vine Streets…

We walked back down Twelfth Street to Main to the new Platform Beer taproom that just opened for the very first time tonight…

We found this little private room where we could hang out and drink our beers…

I don’t normally dig wallpaper in bathrooms but this wallpaper is just wow…

Platform’s taprom is such a fun place and an incredible additon to Main Street…

From Platform, we walked up Main Street to The Pony for a nightcap…

And from The Pony we hopped in an Uber and headed home. And it brought to an end a pretty epic Saturday. 😀🥃🏒🍺❤️

We’re beyond excited about this…

It will be FC Cincinnati’s very first home game of the MLS era. It’s going to be another one of those, “I was there moments” in Cincinnati sports. We have our season tickets all renewed and we’re super excited. 😀⚽️❤️

Six years ago.

Thanks for the memories, Timehop!😀🦕❤️AND #GoBLUE! 😀🏀1⃣❤️

One year ago.

One year ago today, we were watching Western Michigan University hockey on TV and saw my parents right there, front and center…

That was pretty neat. Thanks for the memories, Timehop! 😀🦕❤️

Fantasy football wrap-up.

I played fantasy football again this season…

36496598773_1944734904_o

For whatever reason this season, our league at work never kicked off. I’m not sure what happened there. But I still played five teams for just the fun of playing fantasy football.
I ended up with a combined record of 39-26 for the season. This season I named all of my teams some sort form of Bears…

My Firey Bears ended up in sixth place after going 5-8 during the regualr season. Team Auction AutoDraft ended in fifth at 7-6. My Growly Bears ended in fourth at 9-4 and Hungry Bears also ended in fourth after running riot in their league, thumping teams every week gto go 10-3 before completely collapsing in the championship semifinals.

My Blocky Bears went 8-5 during the regular season and were the only team I had that made the leauge championship matchup this season. And they were the only team I had that actually won their league…

So once again, I can call myself fantasy football champion. I think fantasy football is so much fun. It makes the football season really interesting and enjoyable, especially when you win. 😀🏈🏆❤️
