Merry Christmas Eve!

It was a grey and rainy Christmas Eve morning in Northside…

Good morning from Northside…

We ran over to the grocery to pick up a few little things for Christmas dinner…

My go-to game for time wasting is We Bare Bears: Match3 Repairs. In the foyer of Kroger is one of those infuriating claw games…

And inside the infuriating claw machine was Ice Bear from We Bare Bears…

We got our Christmas items and headed over to Biggby for coffee...

When we got home, it was time for the very last day of my Lego City Advent Calendar…

And there you have it. The Lego City Advent Calendar was so much fun. I’m really going to miss putting together a little Lego set every morning…

I hope they do a new one next year. Or I’m going to have to track the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar.

And Mack was on his new dog bed the entire time I was in our studio office…

This happened rather unexpectedly…

We took the dogs out for their evening walk around the block…

Good evening from Northside…

Genifer made a bunch of delicious Christmas cookies…

We wrapped our Christmas presents. Mack watched to make sure I was doing it right…

And we put all of our presents under our tree…

Tonight, we watched The Midnight Sky on Netflix. A movie about outer space with George Clooney. I thought it was good. Genifer didn’t really care for it.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Merry Christmas Eve. 😀🌄🌧️🛍️☕️🎁🎄❤️

Happy Merry Christmas Eve Eve.

Good morning from Northside…

This morning we ran out to get some Christmas Eve Eve Biggby coffee

We ran around a little bit to do some last minute Christmas shopping…

We got some odds and ends stuff. And a bunch of new dog toys for Oscar & Mack. I also got Mack a new dog bed and Snoopy blanket to go in our studio office where he sleeps a lot. I snuck his new bed upstairs while he was outside…

I showed him his new dog bed and he pretty much spent the rest of the day lounging on it…

While I was hanging out in the studio office with Mack, I decided to check out day 23 of my Lego City Advent Calendar…

I think he really likes his new dog bed…

Later, we had a NYPD Pizza hoagie party….

NYPD hoagies are so good. And their fries were even better than normal tonight.

We dragged Mack off his new dog bed to take the dogs around the block…

Good evening from Northside…

After he got his treats, Mack was right back upstairs, crashed out on his new dog bed…

This evening, we finished the second season of Mindhunter on Netflix. It was a really good series. We hope they get around to making a third season someday. But it probably won’t be anytime soon.

And Mack was still sleeping on his new dog bed…

We hope everyone had a Happy Merry Christmas Eve Eve! 😀🌄🛍️🐾🥪🍟❤️

Oh. I also thought these drawings from @crazyheadcomics & @wearyourvoice were really beautiful…

It just reaffirms how blessed we are and how good we have it this Christmas Eve Eve.

Special deliveries!

When we woke up this morning, we found Northside got a dusting of snow…

But there wasn’t much snow on the hill at the end of our street…

Time for Lego City Advent Calendar day 15…

Genifer ordered Chipotle delivery for lunch….

Chipotle was delicious. I hadn’t had Chipotle in forever.

Both Arsenal and Leicester played at the same time this afternoon. I kept an eye on both of the matches while I was working…

And both of my teams lost. Arsenal is really in a death spiral right now.

We got a couple of special deliveries today. The first package was from my parents…

And there was a wonderful box of Christmas cookies in their package…

There were so many delicious cookies in that box. We cant wait to try them all. And now we also have presents under our tree…

Thanks, mom & dad! Our second package was from TastesOfChicago.com

And inside were two Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria Chicago-style deep-dish pizzas…

And two huuuuge chocolate chip cookies…

Thanks, JJVE! We can’t wait to try our pizzas and those cookies look terrific!

Later, we took the dogs around the block. It was kind of misty outside this evening…

We couldn’t even see the hill across the way on the other side of the highway…

The hill was just barely visible…

Good evening from Northside…

Today is my Timehop was this photo…

It’s interesting that when I saw this photo my mind went to a completely different place when I saw animal mask than when I saw this originally. And there was this one too…

That would have been the best white elephant gift ever. To this day, I still kick myself for not buying it.

Hi Oscar. He’s so fuzzy!

We had a great Wednesday. Thank you again for the wonderful Christmas gifts.
😀🌄🌯📺⚽️🎁🦕❤️

Our Thanksgiving.

Our Thanksgiving got off to a overcast and rainy start…

Good morning from Northside…

After the Arsenal won their Europa League match, we drove out to West Chester to have Thanksgiving with Geri. It was just the three of us this year.

Oops… forgot the gravy…

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with Geri. We spent the afternoon with out in West Chester. We helped with her Christmas decorations and watched the Cowboys lose. Again. It was very nice, low-key Thanksgiving.

When we got back to Northside, we took the dogs on a walk…

And good Thanksgiving evening from Northside…

We had a really nice Thanksgiving. We hope everyone had a very nice, and safe Thanksgiving as well. 😀🦃❤️

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re so very thankful for a great many things today.
Among them is being blessed with amazing family.

We love you all.

We’re also thankful for everyone who’s staying at home
to protect their families, their communities, and themselves.
We hope everyone has a very happy and very safe Thanksgiving.

Gobble, gobble. 😀🦃❤️

Our Election Day.

We got up extra early this morning to walk over to North Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Northside so Genifer could vote…

I dropped off my absentee ballot at the Board of Elections last week.

The polls opened at 6:30am this morning. We got there just a little before 6:00am and Genifer was second in line…

As we stood waiting for the polls to open, the line steadily grew behind us…

Genifer got to cast her vote. And we were over at Sidewinder to get coffee by 6:45am…

Sidewinder had cinnamon rolls this morning too…

My office was closed today for the election so everyone could vote. And Genifer had a pretty light day with her work. So later, we walked back down Hamilton Avenue to Blue Jay for lunch…

Genifer had a five-way and fries for lunch…

And I had Blue Jay’s chicken tender sammich with cheese…

I love that dang sammich. Blue Jay is so good. We don’t eat there enough.

We enjoyed the rest of our Election Day by not doing much of anything. We played in our backyard for a bit…

And we went on our evening walk around the block…

Good evening from Northside…

For dinner, I ate a carry out five-way and a cheese coney I got from Blue Jay…

This evening we went out of our way to avoid any news about the Election. I don’t think we’re going to know the final results any time soon. I just hope everything turns out for the best and that competent adults start running the country again. 😀🌄🗳️☕️🍝🌭❤️

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from Milk & Mocha Bear and Brown & Cony Life. 😀🐻🐰🎃❤️

And we’re back.

We’re back from our road trip to Duck, North Carolina in the Outer Banks. We were really happy that we had the chance to getaway for a few days. And we had a really wonderful time…

The house we stayed in was really nice, a little older but it had plenty of space and a terrific salt water pool. It was also in a great location just outside out of downtown Duck with just a short walk down Seahawk Drive West and then to the beach. We spent a lot of time at the beach and in the pool

We got up to watch the sunrise on the beach one morning, and got coffees from three different coffee shops… Sweet T’s, Duck Cottage and Treehouse Coffee. We also got espresso milkshakes from Sunset Ice Cream. We had some really great meals at Rundown Cafe (Bloody Marys and coconut shrimps), Duck Duck Burgers (mmmmburgers), Treehouse Coffee (chicken biscuit), Coastal Cravings (crab cakes, shrimps, clams and hush puppies) and Aqua (Mahi tacos and fish & chips with bang shrimps and the banana pudding cheesecake). So much good stuff. And we got to wander through some of the many souvenir shops.

This trip marked two years in a row for us at the Outer Banks. We really liked Duck. We liked it a lot more than when we were out in Nags Head last year. Duck was very walkable. It just seemed like there was more to do and everything was a lot closer.

We really hope to make a trip to the Outer Banks an every year event. It’s really wonderful out there. And we just really like it a lot. We’re already thinking about our next trip out to the Outer Banks. Did I mention we like it out there?

We drove out to Outer Banks through Ohio through West Virginia. It was really pretty driving through West Virginia but the Google Maps took us on these twisting, turning little two lane roads through the mountains that were pretty white knuckle at times. It turns out that we had the “avoid toll roads” option turned ON in Google Maps. And it took us on some of the most narrow winding roads through the mountains of West Virginia from Charleston to Lewisburg. We stopped in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday night. And we found a Krispy Kreme right by our hotel Sunday morning. And we coasted the rest of the way into Duck on Sunday afternoon.

After relaxing in Duck for the week, we dropped down the coast to Surf City on Top Sail Island. We had lunch at Surf Dog (I got my delicious Carolina BBQ) and had a beer at Salty Turtle Beer Co. before staying at North Top Sail Beach. We swam in their pool, watched Goonies in our room and drank a crowler from Salty Turtle.

We drove back home through North Carolina to avoid the treacherous West Virginia mountain roads but the roads on the way back got a little dicey too. Not nearly as bad a West Virginia but there was a 20 mile stretch that wasn’t a cake walk. But we also got to go through a tunnel. So, it all evens out. We eventually made it and we stopped in Knoxville and had pizza before heading home the next day.

We took a bunch of photos during our adventure. We didn’t do a lot with Instagram this trip. I think we’ve kind of lost interest in the ‘grams. I might go and #Latergram some photos. But our Flickr album from this trip has over 1000 photos. There were just a lot of great memories made on this trip.

It was a great trip. We had a wonderful time. But it’s really nice to be home.😀🗺️🏖️❤️

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Independence Day morning from Northside…

Later this afternoon, we headed out to Geri’s house for a Fourth of July BBQ. On the way out to the burbs, we stopped at a Walgreens in West Chester. And inside Walgreens, we found a floor stand I designed for Venus featuring Four-Time World Surfing Champion & US Olympic hopeful, Carissa Moore

The floor stand really looked terrific. And the next wave of my Venus displays featuring Carissa Moore are going to be arriving in stores very soon. Be sure to keep an eye out for them. It’s always neat when you see your designs come to life out in the real world. Pretty neat stuff!

When we got to Geri’s house, we grilled up a whole bunch of goodness…

YUM! Stuff always tastes so good on the grill even though I left the burgers on the grill a little too long. You can’t beat a Fourth of July cookout.

And then we were back home. Good evening from Northside…

As we settled in for the evening, we got ready to watch some fireworks from our third-floor bedroom window WyzeCam. We’ve been hearing fireworks around us every night for the last two weeks. So we were expecting quite the show tonight…

And we weren’t disappointed…

And here are all the little videos I captured combined into one long video…

And then the fireworks we could see out of our windows were done. We could hear all sorts of fireworks going off all around our house until very early in the morning. We just couldn’t see them.

We hope everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July. 😀🇺🇸❤️

A Celebration of Freedom.

Today marks the 155th anniversary of the formal end of slavery across the United States. Today is a day long-celebrated by African American communities and citizens across the nation known as Juneteenth.

Maybe you’re already familiar with Juneteenth. Maybe you’re not. Also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth is widely considered to be African-Americans’ independence day. It’s a holiday in 47 states and the District of Columbia. But it’s still not a federally recognized national holiday.

Juneteenth commemorates the reading of federal orders in the city of Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, proclaiming all slaves in Texas were now free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed them almost two and a half years earlier, Texas was the most remote Confederate slave state with a low presence of Union troops. Enforcement of the proclamation had been slow and inconsistent.

In the wake of nationwide protests, sparked by the death of George Floyd three weeks ago, the date has taken on added meaning. Groups have also called for the day to be recognized as a federal holiday, with New York and Virginia proposing to make it a paid day off for state employees.

This year as businesses examine their policies and social responsibility to combat systemic racism, Juneteenth is looking a bit different. A number of companies have made today a paid holiday. Video game maker Electronic Arts is giving employees a paid day off to volunteer in their community. A host of other companies like Twitter, Square and Vox Media all made announcements declaring Juneteenth a company holiday. And Grey has made a similar announcement…

We encourage everyone to use this day away from the office as a moment of reflection and activation. For many, if not everyone, there is still much to learn about racism in America. You can use this time for education. There are also conversations that should happen with families and among friends so we don’t repeat mistakes from the past. There is also much to do to set forth on a better course that will truly benefit all Americans. You can use this time to plan, to promise, and to begin your journey.

Honoring June 19th in this way may seem like a small step. Perhaps. But, a small
step demonstrates momentum and direction. We need both, right now and for
years to come.

Spend a few minutes today exploring the National Museum of African American History’s online collection.

In Cincinnati, there will be free Juneteenth concerts on local tv and social media June 19, 20, and 21, with a special Father’s Day event on Sunday. You can get more details about Juneteenth events at juneteenthcincinnati.org.
